They are called billets. My brother lived with a family for 3 years when he was up in Nova Scotia playing hockey. They became like a second family to him and they took care of him like my own parents would.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I prefer watching our other National Sport ~ Lacrosse..... both professional and my 7th season veteran son in minors. The game is faster and way less political for my liking..... the boys(men) play it for the love of the game certainly not the pay!

I am a die hard Canucks fan.... back to the awful 'V' jerseys (not that I am that old..:)..) and Tiger Williams being one of my first memories. Although I am still in CDN and watch HNIC with my sons every chance I get. It becomes quite the battleground with a Flames and an Avs fan in the house.. never a dull moment!

Heh, they did a retrospective of the truly horrid jerseys the Canucks were forced to wear over the years during the intermission when they were playing the Blues last week. Those were pretty atrocious. The commentator had a lot of fun with it, though, pointing out that in one incarnation, the orange V "looked like throwup" and that the Canucks had to wear "the ugliest uniforms in the sports universe." Usually, I use the intermissions of hockey games to get a snack or take the dog out (because really, the interviews about what went wrong or right during the last period are pretty lame...), but that one I watched.

It's almost playoff time! :) I'm super excited that the Canucks won the NW Division title today! I ran around at work today yelling "DIVISION!" Oh I love the playoffs...

This needs to be bumped back up to the top because our boys are getting sooooooo close to possibly making the playoffs....

They made it! I'm not a Blues fan at all, but I'm super impressed that they pulled it off.

I actually want to get one of the awful V jerseys. They are so terrible that they're awesome.

I'm also excited about the Canucks. Kind of a boring game to finish off the season (besides the first 10 mins), but I'm not going to complain too much. I was pleasantly surprised with their season overall.

I actually love the "V" jersey. One of my friends has one, so I always beg him to let me wear it when we go to a game together.

I had to miss most of the game due to work, but I did see most of the first period. It was crazy how the Canucks had 8 shots in the first 1 1/2 minutes, and then the action totally died down. Ah well. I'm also surprised with the season. Who would've imagined back in January that they'd manage to pull off a division title?! This is exciting. I need to break out my car flag for playoff time! :)

damn Theodore!! I wasn't exactly pleased when the Caps picked him up. he played pretty crappy last night, just shoot to his blocker side, and u can count on a goal! The owner of the Caps was on the radio stn a few weeks back and he stated the season tickets for next season were selling extremely well. I'm too cheap and lazy, rather miss the crowded metro and $$ beer and watch from home for free, lol Maybe wil fork over some $$ and get tickets off of criagslist to watch 1 playoff game, but probably not.

My flames have been sucking, and thanks to being sooo close to being over the salary cap, they have only been dressing 15 players! Not sure what happens for the playoffs. Not counting on them to go very far. My $$ is on the Caps, but that is depending on the quality of goaltending they get! If Theodore sucks, i say buy out his contract and cut him loose

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Agreed.

Hey, you're a goalie too (I'm one as well) we know when they stink and when they REALLY stink :P:D

Our Tix for the playoffs are in Mezinnine Center, but for next season we're on the ends.

Maybe in 2010-11 we'll move to the lower levels.

And yes, they have either sold out or about to sell out season tickets. When I called to buy ours, they didn't have any 2 seat sets left. It took me all day and my ticket rep to have a pair come up! That's what happens when they start winning I guess :P

I won the hockey pool at work! $200 bones. My Dad and brother picked my team!

My experience with hockey is basically wanting to date all the OHL guys that went to my highschool. I thought they were soooooooooo cute back then. Ew! What was I thinking!

My fiance is from NYC so he obviously knows nothing about hockey! He is a diehard Mets fan though and I do enjoy a good baseball game. I always knew I was destined to be with someone who doesn't like hockey, My Dad and brother are OBSESSED and I never really got it.

Congratulations, Sapphire! If we had done that, we could afford playoff tickets! Gotta love a team that goes from being dead last to 6th place in the space of two months. I grew up playing pond hockey---or, rather, canal hockey on the frozen Erie Canal (don't tell my mom)---but never really followed the NHL until now. It wasn't marrying a Canadian that made me a fan; it was the Blues doing what they just did.
