Generally, provincial schools are of poorer quality than those of Manila and students who transfer from provincial schools to the capital often do not do well. Provincial students also do not get as much practice speaking or reading English and so are disadvantaged.

how could you say that? i came from the province of eastern samar, i finished my elementary and high school there, when i entered college in quezon city, i was granted a four-year course scholarship, so that statement is a very hasty generalization...

"Our Wedding Prayer"

Lord, help us to remember when we first met,and the strong love that grew between us.

To work the love into practical things so nothing can divide us

Grant us a Love that grows stronger with each passing year.

We ask for words both kind and loving

and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive.

Guide us to overcome every challenge

and keep our dreams pure to each other always.

Dear Lord,we put our marriage into Your hands.Amen

I am proud of my filipina wife! She was an orphan at age 5 when the ferry capsized killing her parents. She went to a Catholic school at age 16 to live and study, got her Bachelors of Eduction degree. Then while teaching she got her Masters of Education degree. Now she is the youngest principal in her district of 100 principals, having become principal at age 34.

When she comes here May 3, I am sure she will accomplish so many more great things.

The Philippine educational system is patterned after the US system but somewhat modified. It is divided into two levels: elementary school, six years (grades 1 to 6); high school, four years, (Ten years total to complete high school) Here in the us you need 12 years to complete high school.

Generally, provincial schools are of poorer quality than those of Manila and students who transfer from provincial schools to the capital often do not do well. Provincial students also do not get as much practice speaking or reading English and so are disadvantaged.

Employers here in the US consider filipinos with an AA degree as nothing more than a high school graduate at best.

No wonder most of the Philippines Presidents were from the provinces

No matter what you've finished back in Philippines as Filipinos we will always be categorized as 2nd or 3rd class citizens here in US since we came from a poor country and that is the truth. :( Peace! (L)(F) I'm a college drop-out and am not embarrass about that.Worked in Taiwan as factory worker, finished my contract went back to Philippines, enrolled in culinary school, met my husband the rest is history...I'm proud of the many pinoys who were very successful not just here in US but in many other countries as well.

I'm not ashamed being from third country. Our public schools in Philippines are not good as American public schools. In Philippines, you have to buy everything if your parents aren't interested to educate you then you're screwed.I accomplished my grade school and high school diplomas on my own sweat and tears. I was a working student in Cebu City as a tendera(retail and wholesale store). My four years high school were challenging. I worked 12 to 16 hours a day and study at night time. When my employer said, "You'd have to missed your class today." Then I had too. I frustrated every time I missed my school day. They would threatened to fire me if I compelled regarding my performance at school."As a working student, your attendance should be exempted." My employer said. Long short story, after 4 years worked, I graduated in high school. However, here in US, some students are so whiny. They don't appreciate what they have. If I was born in US, I probably finished any four year degree. Then I could pay back the tax payers for sending me to school. :hehe: Anyway, I don't really care about grumpy people from First World because its just coincidence that I'm not an American or a Marsian from mars  but I have good common sense like everybody else. I speak 3 Filipino dialects fluently.

On the other hand, my husband knew about my dreams that I want to pursue my education(dreams). My child was just 3 years old when we immigrated here in US so I didn't go to school right away, I stayed at home as full time mother and wife. Also, I was willing to give up my dreams for my husband so I would not scare my husband(some man doesn't want a busy woman)although he agreed. He deliberately told me that he wants me to achieved my ambition.

Both of my parents are responsible but when my mother died, my father became ferocious and irresponsible.Long short story, even though I had lost both of my parents, I survive and never take any illegal narcotics. I never wanted to make other people to sorry for me because of my family tragedy. In fact, I didn't really like to tell anyone about my parents otherwise I drop my tears. But now I don't mind to share half of my past experience. Imagine a 10 years old girl

sat on their front door and fall asleep while waiting for her mother to come home.

On April 01, 2009 is my mother's 18th death Anniversary.

Okay drama is over.

I'm just exercising online.

I listened to the speech of President Obama last night. He said that america is one of the developed countries with high college drop outs.

I am just curious if the pinay members here in VJ are also college drop outs, which I think may not be true. I guess there are many pinays, who are here in america, are educated and even college/masters degree holder.

If you are a college/masters degree holder, you're invited to join in this thread and be counted. This is just for fun. You deserve to be recognized! :star:

Filipinas don't have to brag in this thread if they are highly educated or not. We can discern who are the highly educated and not too highly educated by reading their posts and how their English grammar and spelling stand up.

We don't have to boast that we are accountants or nurses or computer experts. This thread sucks! :star:

Well sir, at least we can speak English and most people can understand us, if our English is not perfect, that's because it's not our primary language. How about you? Can you speak Filipino huh? Are you bilingual like us? Being able to speak English is not the only way to tell if the person is educated or not, I guess you should know that.

Anyway mga pinays, count me in, BSBA Management :)

Girl, you're so funny  , but i must say, your story is very inspiring!

I also disagree with this claim unless you can show me with the facts and figures from any research or study that could prove this. This is a baseless generalization. In fairness, there are top performing schools in the provinces and are better that any other schools in Manila.

Just saw this. http://www.cockatoo.com/english/philippine...t_education.htm

I could not make comment on provincial schools coz i studied in manila throughout my life. All I can say, it depends on the person/student.

Some of the findings/claims from that website are not from a scientific study or research, and are therefore, unsubstantiated and purely invented stories.

I guess you are safe to say that it depends on the person/student. I agree on that. The academic performance and achievement of the person cannot be fully attributed to the location of his/her school or even the school itself where he/she finished. There are many factors to consider if we look at the person in a holistic view and as a dynamic individual.
