We haven't really officially planned our first wedding - but we're assuming we'll just go to the courthouse in New York and make it official for immigration purposes then.

We're planning a relatively big wedding in Mississauga, September 25, 2010. We're getting married at my Catholic church and then planning a reception at a banquet hall with an Italian 6 course dinner for about 175 people which I'm very excited for - I love Italian wedding foods!!

Aww, my hometown! <3 I miss Mississauga! Which church are you getting married at? I lived there from birth to 20

I still live in Mississauga! We are getting married at Sts. Martha and Mary Church - most people aren't familiar with my neighbourhood... I live right on the east side bordering Etobicoke.

What a great thread! Congrats to those who have upcoming weddings :)

Hubby and I also did the 2 weddings thing. He entered the country on Feb. 11, 2007. We had a JOP marry us in our living room on Valentine's Day. The funny thing was, we did not pick V Day for its significance, but just because I had already booked late clients on the 12th and 13th, so the 14th was the first day I could leave work early  The JOP was great, came to our house in the middle of a big blizzard. After we got married, hubby and I went to a local hotel (a gorgeous grand old hotel that has been around since the 1800's) and took advantage of their Valentine's Day celebration (4 course meal, champagne and a room for $200).

We had the church wedding on April 21, 2007 at the church where my mom and dad got married in CT ... a very simple old congregational church. Probably about 60 people or so attended ... mostly my friends and relatives, but my hubby's immediate family and a few friends were able to make it out from Vancouver. It was a fairly traditional wedding with some little quirks ... a tower of cannolis instead of wedding cake (as I really don't like cake much). We had the reception by the water in a rented hall. It was fabulous. Had a great DJ and danced my azz off. I was so relaxed during the whole event and am glad we married a couple months beforehand, really calmed my nerves!

I was so nervous too! On our "first" wedding day I even forgot to put on my jewelry haha. Our legal marriage happened in a hospital with only 15 guests, because my mom was recovering from a serious illness. She had been in the hospital for a little over 4 months, mostly in a coma suffering from "Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome." We were called to her bedside twice when her doctors thought she would die, but miraculously she is alive and well today!

Our second wedding was in June 2008 and was a lot bigger! We had around 200 guests, so it was quite different from the first. :) Both were amazing experiences though. (And I was a lot less nervous the second time around!)

Here is a

for our first wedding.

2004-09-03 : Met at college in USA and went on first date!

2008-01-02 : Married in Canada.

2008-01-07 : DH returns to USA.

2008-04-20 : Finally received marriage certificate from the province and filed 1-130 Petition.

2008-07-08 : I-130 Approved!

2008-09-15 : Received DS-230 and I-864.

2008-10-14: Mailed DS-230 and I-864

2008-10-30: DS-230 and I-864 received by NVC

2008-11-04: RFE

2008-11-18: Overnighted missing documents to NVC

2008-11-26: Case Complete at NVC!!

2008-03-02: Medical in Toronto

2009-03-23: Interview! Approved!

2009-04-04: The big move. POE: Blue Water Bridge. All went well.

2009-04-16: SSN arrives in the mail.

2009-04-24: PR card arrives in the mail.

We're getting married next Friday:) Little town called Yanceyville close to the VA border - his mom and stepdad live there, and my parents, brother and sister and aunt, uncle, two cousins and my best friend are coming down for it :) We are getting married in a historic courthouse by a magistrate (lovely lady). The Courthouse is gorgous and has a little garden off to the side for pictures, and a balcony I can throw my bouquet off :)

We're having dinner and the first dances at the golf clubhouse afterwards and we'll have our honeymoon 'night' in Danville VA at either the Hilton or Marriott. We're going to have a longer honeymoon when we arent so broke, and a 'reaffirmation' ceremony in Halifax for the rest of my family and friends hopefully this fall :)

I got married yesterday and it was just so amazing. Mind you, I laughed my way to the altar, and I couldn't stop. But I felt like a thousand bucks and then we went to a wax musuem on the strip and posed with the Obama figure. :P

I would write more about my day, but I'm just in awe right now.

We got married at the Old Mill from the movie "Gone with the Wind." It was late June, and the summer flowers were blooming. We were just on the other side of the bridge by a fountain. We had a JP marry us with about 30 of our family and friends witnessing. We had the reception at our house with all the bbq, fixin's, and beer you could eat and drink.

Guys.

When I declare my stuff, I know it's going to go over the $750 limit. So what does paying duty mean? Is it just the difference or how does that work? And will I have to declare my wedding ring? (I've declared my engagement on a previous trip but I don't believe it was recorded.)
