I'm trying to complete all of the forms required to set up an interview but need a little help regarding the I-134, which is the Affadavit of Support.

I've been living in South Korea for 4 years and nearly all of my money in my account here. I only have $3.5k in my US bank account. The form asks for the amount of money I have in the US and where I'm employed. When my fiance and I move to the US, neither one of us will have jobs. Therefore, I can't fill out the employment section. I'm I going to be seen as unemployed and almost broke when I send in the paperwork? There must be a way for me to explain that I have money in Korea and will send it the US before we move.

Can someone also explain the timeline for my fiance. I know that once we get her visa, she has 6 months to move to the US. Once she arrives, we have 3 months to marry. After we marry, are there any restrictions on her travel? Can she go back to South Korea to visit her family? How often can she leave the US and is there a limit to the number of days that she can be gone?

Thank you~

A good part of being able to sponsor is to show sufficient annual income, not just what is in the bank at present. Do your earnings in Korea qualify you as being above the American poverty level? As to the future jobs you may have, in this economy there is no assurance of what tomorrow will bring.

When you are married, you can file for an AP that, if granted, will allow your wife to go overseas for a short time only. It will take about three months to get the AP. Once she is given a green card (allow another six months) she can travel as many times as she wants, if her job permits.

I make more than enough in Korea to be above the poverty level, but the problem is that once I leave, I might not have any income for several months. I have budgeted enough money for the both of us so that we could, in theory, live off of savings for at least two years if need be (living cheaply of course).

Could you explain what an AP is? Thanks!

Provided you have a job and income (even if it is in Korea) you do not need any money in the bank. If you do not have a source of income you are going to need a WHOLE LOT more than 3.5K OR you will need a co-sponsor. The money in the bank needs to be on deposit in the United States, transfer your money BEFORE you file the I-134 and list the amount in the bank, but it will need to be (minimum) 3 times the amount you need to make up from the annual income. Or give evidence you have a job and verify the income.
