Hi, My wife and I have our interview soon. We have been together 2 years and married for 4 months. She is my benficiary and we have been preparing for the interview. Things seem to be going fairly smoothly. One "issue" may be that her sister is in the country in another state accross the country in, I think, an "overstay" status. The sister is apparently in the process of consulting with an attorney and looking into applying for asylum in her own right, completely independent of us. Anyway, my wife and her sister are not that close. In fact, we didn't even think to mention to our attorney the fact that my wife had a sister in the country. My question is, does my wife's sister being in America pose any problem for us? Will the interview folks ask us, if she has sibling in the U.S.?

Things seem to be going fairly smoothly. One "issue" may be that her sister is in the country in another state across the country in, I think, an "overstay" status. The sister is apparently in the process of consulting with an attorney and looking into applying for asylum in her own right, completely independent of us. Anyway, my wife and her sister are not that close. In fact, we didn't even think to mention to our attorney the fact that my wife had a sister in the country. I am not 100% sure but I do not think her being overstay will affect yall in any case. This is about you and your wife. I have never heard anybody being in trouble over what their siblings are doing. They may ask you if you know any of the names of her family member and if yall ever met and vice versa but I would think that would be about it. I would not try and mention any of the sister's business. If yall never met, just say so. I don't think it would hurt yall. Just be straight forward about what you do have control over. If you do have any doubt just ask your attorney about the case. That's what you are paying him for.

Hi,

pacificleye is right! whether or not the sister is overstaying has no affect with the 2 of you! Based on my experience and other VJ member interview experience, the immigration officer (if they ask sth related to siblings) would probably ask u or yr wife "if she has any siblings? what is her name?" .............and they wont ask much details abt the siblings.....

i would say u both just focus on understanding more abt both of u....habits, work titles, food that u like to eat, parents name and siblings name, favorite colors...............etc...those questions!

remember to bring copies of documents and extra evidence just in case! GOOD LUCK!!!

Your sister's situation is independent of your case. You need not worry.

It's my sister in law, who is the benificiary. But I guess it's the same scenerio.

Thanks for anyone's opinion! I apprciate your time.
