Guys, Gals and Gurus - This is great. We are clicking.

Classic - I will take the above mentioned docs. I am waiting for my NOA2. My fiancee has received her PCC from the district ones. But since she is living in Bby now, she has to go to the regional PPO there instead of her home town - Delhi. Hopefully she gets it soon. How long did it take for the Regional PPO - PCC? Can you please ask your fiancee what she had to take to get that? Thanks.

Karri - Woohoo!! great that you have started documenting.

Parul - You are our guardian angel!! Thanks for helping us out here...Good luck w/ the baby!!

3) As for receipt at the consulate, don't think you can get much out of the embassy. You would have to get in touch with them first and we all know how easy it is to get them to respond to emails or get them on the phone. You can however, call DOS @202-663-1225 and they can tell you if the consulate has received your file and if pkt 3/your interview is scheduled. You need to give it some time before they can look up the info. DOS has access to the consulate databases. So, once the info is entered by the consulates, DOS can view it and share with you.

Hope that helps.

Classic-

You write "...consulate has received your file and if pkt 3/your interview is scheduled" I almost read it as you don't have to do anything except get Packet 3 in mail or directly an interview date.

However, after reading Parul's thread, it appears to me that :

a) Go to consulate submit DS 230 Part 1 as soon as packet has reached consulate (or) wait till you get Packet 3 and then go to Consulate and submit DS 230 Part1

B) Go a week later and collect Packet 4/ Interview date (or) immediately if Packet 3 is there on hand.

c) Get medicals after you get Packet 4 - Is this correct?

Please clarify..

Dilbert - sorry for the confusion. All I was referring to was that you can call DOS and get the information that you can get from the Consulate (except that it may be next to impossible to get anything from the consulate). For instance, they can tell you if packet 3 has been mailed to you, whether it has been received if you have mailed it back, etc. etc.

Parul/Karri/Dilbert/CJVasani/Siyaram/others - I was looking at DS 156 and had the following questions. Hoping you guys can shed some light..

Here goes

Q14. National Identification Number --- My fiancee has an Election Commission of India ID Card and also, something called the PAN card (Permanent Account Number). What did you put there ?

Q22. When Do You Intend to Arrive in the US ?

I am assuming you don't know as it depends on the outcome of the interview. So, leave it BLANK ?

Q28. Who Will Pay for your Trip ?

I plan to go down and bring her here and pay for both of us. Should she say Herself or Myself and Fiance. If my fiancee says, she will pay... will they ask for proof ? Again, she will not have bought the ticket at this point.

Q32 Do you intend to work in the US ? Do you say Yes or No ? Example form on VJ says Yes and with work authorization, employer unknown.

I am trying to tie this question to #22 on DS 230, which says to list your employment history and then at the bottom asks In what occupation do you intend to work in the US ( I put N/A there).

Last but not the least,

Q34. Names and Relationships of Persons Traveling with you ? Example form says NONE. But I plan to go down after her interview to bring her back here. Should she then say, my name/fiance, right ?

Sorry, for the long list of questions. Appreciate any help/input you can provide.

Thanks

Classic - Thanks for the clarification.

Here's what I read from the Delhi consulate. Karri and others - can I send this form now or should I wait for the package to reach the US embassy at Delhi?

FIRST: Complete and return immediately to the Immigrant visa section at the American Embassy the enclosed Form (Applicant Statement) and form DS-230 Part 1.

SECOND: Obtain the following documents on this checklist, which pertain to you. As you obtain each document, check the box before each item and return this form to the Immigrant Visa Section at the American Embassy, New Delhi. DO NOT SEND THE DOCUMENTS TO THIS OFFICE. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE DOCUMENTS AT THE TIME OF YOUR INTERVIEW.

Thanks.

Ok, if the pkt has been mailed to you, you can still go collect another one, there is nothing official in the packet.

N/A for Indians.

Q22. When Do You Intend to Arrive in the US ?

I am assuming you don't know as it depends on the outcome of the interview. So, leave it BLANK ?

Put 1st week of march etc, whatever you think it will be, it does not need to be a specific date.

Q28. Who Will Pay for your Trip ?

I plan to go down and bring her here and pay for both of us. Should she say Herself or Myself and Fiance. If my fiancee says, she will pay... will they ask for proof ? Again, she will not have bought the ticket at this point.

No they will not ask for proof whether she says she will pay or whether you pay.

Put what the example form says. N/A is fine

Last but not the least,

Q34. Names and Relationships of Persons Traveling with you ? Example form says NONE. But I plan to go down after her interview to bring her back here. Should she then say, my name/fiance, right ?

Put none, it refers to any other person like family, children, friends traveliing with her.

Sorry, for the long list of questions. Appreciate any help/input you can provide.

Thanks

Thanks Parul you are of great help here.

When I read the Delhi US embassy website, my understanding is that you will need to submit :

http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/ivpacket309k1.html

1. DS 230Part1

2. Packet 3 check list.

Can I submit it now to the embassy, even before my approved petition reaches the US consulate. THe reason I asking this

My petition was approved on the 14th of Jan. I am traveling to India - had booked my tix last month to meet her end of this month. She and her family are going to be with me in the south from the end of Jan to middle of Feb. There is a high likely hood that her P3 is mailed to her Delhi address in the first week of Feb.

What are my options to avoid any delay in getting an interview since we are going to be in Delhi after the 15th?

I am getting back to the US in the week of the 23rd and would like to see if there is any (I know remote) possibility for her to travel with me or at least as soon as possible and avoid further delays.

You should not send it in until you confirm the embassy has your case. There are three things you need.

1. DS 230 Part 1

2. Packet 3 check list

3. Sworn statement from sponsor (at bottom of checklist) - you need the NVC case # for this before you can consider sending it in.

You are cutting it too close right now. The possibility of her getting an interview date by mid feb is slim and if she did, what are the chances she will get the visa in hand in time. Tell her to call the Consulate, they will tell her if her case is there or not. The Consulate receives the case electronically before they get the DHL package so she probably will be able to collect pkt 3.

Still don't count on her travelling to the US with you coz its too close. Not discouraging you but you don't want to end up buying tickets etc and wasting all the money and also being disappointed. All the best.

Ok, if the pkt has been mailed to you, you can still go collect another one, there is nothing official in the packet.

N/A for Indians.

Q22. When Do You Intend to Arrive in the US ?

I am assuming you don't know as it depends on the outcome of the interview. So, leave it BLANK ?

Put 1st week of march etc, whatever you think it will be, it does not need to be a specific date.

I could probably put a date sometime after the interview date, since I will know that before my fiancee takes this form to the interview.

I had someone suggest to me that I should say I will pay as it shows more proof that I will fully support her (since I am submitting the Affidavit of Support form, anyways. Know what I mean. On the flip side, if she says herself, she is indicating that she is self sufficient/is gainfully employed and is marrying for love and not money..

Put what the example form says. N/A is fine

I am thinking saying NO. As the (immediate) purpose to go there is Marriage and Relocate to US not to go work there (I am looking at Q27 on DS 156). Granted she will work down the road but the reason/intention for visa application is to go there to marry within 90 days and stay permanently, right.

Last but not the least,

Q34. Names and Relationships of Persons Traveling with you ? Example form says NONE. But I plan to go down after her interview to bring her back here. Should she then say, my name/fiance, right ?

Put none, it refers to any other person like family, children, friends traveliing with her.

I have had some time to reflect since I posted yesterday (it was very late). I rationalized 34 the same way you do, it refers to other applicants who will apply for visa and travel. The answer should be as you put it NONE.

Sorry, for the long list of questions. Appreciate any help/input you can provide.

Thanks

Thanks a bunch Parul. Much appreciated. You are our Guardian Angel as dilbert put it.
