Okay folks,

I'm wanting to take a little get away... maybe 4 or 5 days or so, with Jay and her daughter... and maybe her mom (not sure if her mom will be able to come though). Jay should be my wife by the time this trip happens... but we can't get any firm dates yet because we don't know when she'll get to come here... but we are assuming by Mid July at the latest.

Although I live in NC, I wasn't born and raised here, so I've never been to Myrtle Beach. And normally, I'd avoid the place like the plague, cause I hate crowds. But this trip is more for her daughter then for me, a chance for her to get to know me, while my 2 kids will be in Texas with their egg-donor.

So I'd like some ideas of good "family" kinds of things to do at Myrtle Beach, besides the obvious thing - going to the beach.

I hear they have the Dixie Stampede, as well as the Medievel Knights (or something like that) and I think that might be fun to go do. But what else? Know of any good places to stay? Things like that. We're thinking of getting a suite or something because... well.. we'll be newlyweds and we'd like to do the laundry while we are there  But of course, we don't have to... but it would be nice.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc from people that have been there would be appreciated it. And yes, I know you can look stuff up on the internet, but I'm looking for some first hand knowledge here.

Thanks in advance

I second the vote for the aquarium. Also, there are 2 major outdoor shopping centers, Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing, which have lots of cool shops and kid-friendly activities. There are a ton of mini-golf places. There used to be a Ripley's Believe it or Not by the Pavilion, but I know they are doing major construction there, so I don't know if it's still there. Ditto for the arcades.

Broadway at the Beach is fun at night, as there are several clubs right there together, so you have your pick.

Keep in mind, Myrtle Beach is very touristy and can sometimes be a little rowdy.

For places to stay, you may want to look into renting a private condo. It'll give you lots of room, and may end up giving you more for your money. Try vrbo.com. I work part-time as a property manager for my boss, who has 2 condos on Folly Beach in Charleston, and she rents out her condos almost exclusively through vrbo. There are usually lots of good options there.

I grew up 1 1/2 hours from Myrtle Beach and have been there many times over the years, so if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
