Hi,

It depends on your case. Are you filing joint or waiver? What evidence do you have? For joint straight forward cases most people do it themselves, provided they have all the required evidence and know how and where to file.

Can you explain the difference between filing joint and waiver? I don't understand what is waiver?

If you are still happily married to your spouse to whom you gained US PR status, you would file I-751 jointly. One would file a waiver for joint filling requirement, if he/she is no longer with that same USC spouse.

JOINT-together with your wife, WAIVER-divorced self-petitioning (waiving the joint filing based on good faith marriage) yourself but if you have a lawyer everything would be much painless for you in both cases and especially if you are divorced because the lawyer is gonna help you prove that everything was in a good faith and you are gonna be more respected if asked to appear for an interview. You don't need to mess up with USCIS because even a small mistake can give you huge headaches. That's important stuff, spend 2k and find a good lawyer, not a notario or consultant look carefully online, compare their skills experience and you could always get a good one. Good Luck!
