Hello all!

I'm not ready to file for AOS yet (fiance filed K1 in Oct.), but just have a quick question. I never resided in the US, never worked, only visited for vacation. However, my mother bought a house in FL and I don't know how, she was able to get a "not valid for work" SSN for both of us. I'm just wondering now how it's gonna work for me whe I get to that point??

Anyone in the same situation? I mean will the SSA people give me problems?

Thanks for any info/advice

Thanks. And how did it go for you to change it to "valid to work" and change to your married name? Did you have any problems? I read so many people having problems with their SSN....I'm just curious and like to be prepared!

You can get it changed once you get your EAD. They will change it to permitted to work with work authorisation.

Name change can be done anytime. All you need is your marriage certificate.

Basically, you can make 3 changes in a year so you might want to club a couple together.

Same situation here, your number will stay the same but eventually will have your married name on (if you want it to...) There should be no problem switching it over and once you've adjusted it will just be a regular, valid card without anything else on it.
