The Obamas had asked White House officials to move into Blair House about two weeks before the traditional date so their two daughters could start their new school when classes resume Jan. 5. Obama aides say the White House told them that the request cannot be met because the current administration still has plans for the historic government home across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House.

...

Sally McDonough, first lady Laura Bush's press secretary ... said the Blair House would be available on January 15, the traditional date it becomes available for new presidents and their families.

Obama's two daughters — 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha — are planning to attend Sidwell Friends School. Classes start more than a week before the incoming first family could stay at Blair House.

Ah, ok....just read this...I retract my previous post - what Obama asked was appropriate considering the past.

Several presidents-elect of the United States have spent the night before their inauguration in the house. President George W. Bush arranged for former First Lady Nancy Reagan to stay at the house in 2004 and receive guests there following the state funeral for her husband, former president Ronald Reagan; the same was done for former First Lady Betty Ford in 2006 following the state funeral of her husband, former president Gerald Ford.

Yes, how impertinent of him.

I'm sure he didn't mean it that way, but it sure comes across that way.

Well I am glad Bush put him in his place, then.

:jest: I thought his response was good - they have plans.

gah, if Obama wasn't successful in outwitting Georgie Boy into getting the house early, I have no hope that he's going to be a winner on the world stage. :crying:

Nope disagree. Those girlies are homely looking. They need an education. Palin was pretty and afforded the option to be retarded.
