aloha all,

i just left china for the united states after having spent the past year working and living with my fiancee in china. we submitted our initial K-1 packet of information and received our WAC receipt number on August 13th or so. It's now been almost 4 months and haven't heard anything. is this normal? we were told they're running at about a 6 month timeframe for this next step. is that what others have or are encoutering?

also, what's next? i've heard that once the government takes the next step, things proceed more steadily and timely? (i.e. provide documents, next step, interview, etc.) i've been pretty happy with the forms thus far, as the initial packet was fairly straight-forward and the assistance i received from the USCIS was helpful.

any help or advice or expertise would be greatly appecited.

thanks for your time.

Because of the Embassy you are dealing with, the latter stages of this process are probably not going to be as smooth, or as quick, as you are assuming. Expect much more scrutiny in dealing with GUZ.

Do your very best to collect all bona-fide relationship evidence you can now... record everything... save everything that proves an ongoing relationship... visit the China Regional thread here on VJ and www.candleforlove.com.

CSC seems to be taking 5-6 months for the adjutication of the initial petition... the approved petition (I-797/NOA2) is then sent to NVC briefly before it is sent out to the Embassy. From this point the process is Embassy specific so it's best to check the timelines of those who have also been through GUZ. Try your portals link, the Embassy review/info links and the Regional threads for more info.

good luck to you

thank you both.

i will visit the august waiting room! yes, i spoke with a lawyer when i first met my fiancee, so i have been documenting everything from the start. i think having lived in china with her for a year will help too. i appreciate the heads-up on the current time frame too...guess we're just waiting.

thank you again, i'll get a timeline updated and visit the forum for august!

aloha!
