Here we go again...The New, New Deal....This typifies the Democratic party. Bash corporate America, characterize them as villains and then "make jobs" for Americans through government subsidized programs and contracts. The source of money for these "jobs"? You, and me, and of course corporate America in the form of higher taxes........

There are numerous problems with these "jobs", and there's a reason to put quotes around the word in the context of this discussion for they aren't high value jobs, nor do they provide the kinds of employment that makes America competitive in the world markets. They are mostly low paying, unskilled, labor intensive jobs.

And so a vast number of Americans will be beholden to the Democrats for providing a "jobs" program.

We've been here before. It didn't work then and it isn’t going to work now.......

FROM THE FAUX "OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT ELECT".........

WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama wants to project fiscal restraint even as his economic team assembles a massive recovery package that could cost several hundred billion dollars.

A day after introducing the captains of his economic team and promoting a giant jobs plan, Obama on Tuesday was to lay out his budget belt-tightening vision. The dual images — big spender and disciplined budget watcher — were designed to give both political and economic assurances to the public, the Congress and the financial markets.

Obama also was expected to introduce Peter Orszag as his new director of the Office of Management and Budget, the White House office that serves as a funnel for federal agency budget requests. Orszag is the current director of the Congressional Budget Office.

Obama's economic team embodies what at first glance seem to be mutually exclusive goals. Timothy Geithner, Obama's choice for treasury secretary; Lawrence Summers, who will head the National Economic Council; and Orszag all have links to Robert Rubin, who as President Clinton's treasury secretary pushed for a balanced budget.

But all three will also be part of an administration that will drive deficits to new heights with an economic plan designed to save or create 2.5 million jobs and redirect the economy over the next two years. Economists from across the political spectrum, including some who have served as informal advisers to Obama, have put the size of an economic recovery package as high as $700 billion over two years.

Obama summed up the challenge Monday.

"The way to think about it is short term, we've got to focus on boosting the economy and creating 2.5 million jobs, but part and parcel of that is a plan for a sustainable fiscal situation long-term, and that's going to require some reforms in Washington," he said during a news conference in Chicago to introduce Geithner and Summers.

"To make the investments we need," he said at another point, "we'll have to scour our federal budget, line by line, and make meaningful cuts and sacrifices, as well, something I'll be discussing further tomorrow."

Obama is already starting in the red. The federal government reported a record deficit of $237.2 billion in October, which reflected only a portion of the $700 billion Congress approved last month to rescue the financial markets. The government's red ink has been rising over the past eight years, reversing a surplus achieved during the Clinton administration.

Leonard Burman, director of the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, said Geithner and Summers reflect both the need for a large-scale stimulus to the economy and for fiscal restraint once the economy shows signs of improvement.

"What's good about the appointments that Obama has made is that it suggests, in ways that his campaign never did, that he really understands this," Burman

And what, pray tell, do you have to say about the $2 trillion (or is it more by now?) Bush giveaway? Oh yeah, it's only socialism if the Democrats do it, right?!

Hal's version of tactical decision: abort, retry or shutdown?

I am sadly unable to comply with your request for information.

Dude, I think I got cursed at in Spanish! But I don't understand it well enough to know, maybe they were just shouting compliments abotu my driving :)

I'm sure there were compliments.... we all know Meiskins are not famous for calling people things like PENDEJOOOO and the like :whistle:

Well the Elizabeth area is chock-full of Colombians, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Dominicans. AJ should be fine and if he feels threatened by any comments he can always reply with a simple "y tu madre también." Although I would not recommend doing so if the originator of the comment looks like he/she has a weapon on board.

The lifts at the Elizabeth train station smell like cat piss. The general character of the area isn't much better. When we were living there I did love the TV ads from the town's mayor extolling the Urban Enterprise Zone - which involved carefully shot footage of a couple of store fronts - minus the dodgy characters on the street corners and bums eating burgers out of bins.

Up until recently my forays into Elizabeth were almost exclusively in the Elmora Av section. So I thought Elizabeth was nice.

But now I've seen where the new USCIS ASC is going and omfg. What a sh1thole. I bet DHS got cheap rent.

 when you said that Elizabeth was nice before I thought to myself that you must have some low standards there :P

The Elmora side is OK - but down by the church and the train station (basically where the DMV and the social security office are) its really terrible. I used to dread it when the wife came back from work late - I'd always drive down there to pick her up.

HAL 9000 is relieved. Discovery 3 (4 wheeled transport) will not be involved in navigating on Route 22 but will come close on 287 itself on its way to South Amboy. The sub-light course in that area will be to go from I-80 to US-206 to I-287 to Route 440 to US-9 to Route 35.

I love what they've done to the waterfront in South Amboy. Enjoy!

Man, I ain't that stupid :jest:

Thank you AJ. We'll be directly on a waterfront property owned by someone that was once an illegal alien. (that now is not only a citizen that loves this country, but that makes more $ than many haters around...)

 on the 'madre' part. Don't do it even as a joke if you value your life.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Yeah my wife has a possible lead on a job in Elizabeth.. but in the worst part, near the port :dead: On one hand i am hoping it doesn't pan out, on the other hand the raise would be nice.

Down by the port is the worst - they have hookers and street dealers down there.

They do have a cheese distributor in Elizabeth... Caribe cheese I believe. The one you get at Costco. Good, fresh Caribbean style cheese. YUM.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

The cheese maybe good - but I suspect if people knew where it came from they probably wouldn't eat it.

 More like HR Management. She's raking it in and ensuring her company's workers are healthy and getting the resources they need. Beautiful person.

I suppose that would apply to most cheeses.
