Shipping jewelry overseas to my fiancee?

Okay so this might be a little off-topic for this area,

But the engagement ring I presented to my fiancee in India while there 2 months ago was far too big, and the proper size did not reach me in time for the trip.

So, I took that one back with me, and now I need to get the properly sized ring over to her. however, there seems to be some sort of restriction? The only service that would really do this seemed to be the US mail. After I filled out the forms and got ready to pay, the credit card machine was showing the terms, and it said "no jewelry."

Is this a customs thing? The USPS had no idea, and some of the other carriers would not ship jewelry. The value is under $500, so insurance should not be the issue.

This is very frustrating... the last thing I want to do is be sneaky about it, as customs lately has been ripping open everything I send anyway.

I can't seem to find any information about this on the web.

Help!

I think it's more than the customs... It's really not advisable to send any piece of jewelry in the mail.

Custom will ask your fiancee to pay half the price of your ring you send for her to claim, they were so ###### corrupt! specially in Philippines... but anywayz sending jewelry on the mail is not advisable.

My fiancee tried to do it too and he was told: no jewelry. For your own sake, keep it until you see her in person.
