It amazes me that people buy into this - if there were no illegals everything would cost a fortune!

Er...not neccessarily no.

(And Im sure they once said the same about abolition of slavery - it will make everything cost too much)

How many COMPETITIVE industries use no illegal workers?

Or are we seriously being asked to believe that NO companies who turn a profit can afford to do it without breaking the employment laws?

For 'cost the consumer too much' read 'make big inroads on our profits with which we pay ourselves HUGE fat-cat salaries' imo.

Saying 'everything will cost too much without illegal workers' is, imo, a diversionary tactic to prevent said companies from having to change and *gasp* spend money on hiring people! Paying them a living wage! Sorting out health care packages!

How can we do that and STILL afford 3 new mercedes a year for the CEO??

My thoughts exactly: If a business can't compete within the law when competitors in the same industry can, then that business is poorly run and shouldn't exist to begin with. It's just that simple.

How sad, people buying those McMansion monstrosities will have to pony up a few extra dollars. I'm digging deep in my old sympathy well and coming up empty.

You must live around me somewhere. Lately the big thing seems to be buying up the older homes, (that I so love) tearing them down and building these huge homes where they were. People are starting to complain because the new houses are so big you can practically look right out the side windows into the neighbors windows. Those lots aren't big enough for them.

Besides that by doing so they are pricing many people out of homes in the area which just stinks

Ohhh yeah! I now work for a very large company and while those on top live in luxury, the majority of their employees don't earn a living wage.

The company I worked for before I ended up here payed their employees well I thought (I still haven't met what I was making there) but even they could have done more when you consider what the executivese made. I'll never forget looking at one of the hand outs for a stockholders meeting and finding that the CEO made 500,000 per year + 500,000 for every point the stock went up. Good grief!

I don't know if we do (I'm in the hills of northeastern PA), but I know that the countrysides here are being developed and devoured very quickly. I was a nanny in one of those McMansions and it was kind of depressing, to be honest...these huge ugly homes for spoiled rotten children going up on these pretty hillsides. You're right about the fact that the homes are straining the lots they're built on—there was only room for about a 5-foot-wide strip of backyard. Sheesh, if I was paying (I'm guessing) half a mil for a home, I'd at least want a yard.

But anyway, yeah, if a lack of illegal labor will stop these homes from being built, I'm all for it!
