I was 19 when I filed for my 19 year old fiance, no one ever brought up our age. That doesn't mean you may not get a comment or two about it at some stage of this, but personally we didn't have any issues with being young.

Any information I post is based upon my personal experience only. I am not a lawyer.

Someone else already mentioned that you'll need to be of certain age to legally marry in the US. That age depends on what state you'll be married in. There may be some states where it's 16, but I'm not sure. 18 is a pretty safe bet all around, though.

You mentioned your birthday is in a few weeks, I think.... I'd suggest strongly that you wait to send all the paperwork until you've had your 18th birthday. There's no need post mark it before that, and probably best not to take any chances on anything that might draw negative attention. You'll be fine once you've hit 18.

That's exactly what we're thinking sara, we're waiting so that it completely removes that factor. It's certainly not a good idea to give them a reason to decline upon submission; especially such an obvious one.

So we're waiting to mail it on 2nd Dec, my birthday, and hopefully everything should go smooth from then.

Been thinking some more lately, and have just a few more questions, and rather than posting a new topic i figured i'd just put them on the end of here and hope someone bothers to look:

- I now know that I need the I-134 my interview, and I have 2 further questions on that subject:

1. I presume it means that I need to have the forms mailed to me in order for me to present them at the interview, as they obviously have to be filled out and notarized by my sponsors in the USA?

2. How do I go around getting my fiancée's father as a co-sponsor? Does he just fill out another I-134 like her stating the same information (but relative to his income and possessions)?

- When in the timeline do I apply for my SSN, and how?

Thanks again guys, you're great.

Martin.

Your fiance's father will fill out a notorized I-134 and supply all of the same documentation as your fiance will.

You can apply for your social security card 10 days to 2 weeks after arriving in the U.S. on your K1 visa. Regardless of what you read or are told...this alone does not allow you to work. You need authorization from the Department of Homeland Security to legally work in the U.S.. You get this after you are married and apply for adjustment of status. The cost of adjusting status will include AP (travel) and EAD (work) along with your temp green card.

You have found the best resource for the process you can in VJ. Read through the GUIDES, the flowchart and the FAQ's links at the top of the forum. The example forms will help you fill out your paperwork. You will learn some invaluable information to help you prepare for this journey.

good luck.
