I've been there...if your wife wants to be successful person here, she has all chances to be the one. It is not easy to go through the transition, but she (and you) will be so proud of her when this transition period is over! The proposed strategy: 1. get the information (about universities, job, volunteer opportunities, etc), 2. make the plan (what she wants to achieve man and max), 3. start accomplishing the plan.

The key point is to move forward. My first year was hard, second was better, third is even better than second, now i feel good about my life. I have a job (pretty good one), friends, know almost everything about life in this country (this is the most stressful factor that impacts all new immigrants).

I can talk to her if you want, let me know if she wants some "positive" therapy (no charge :P )

OP:

Just an FYI - my wife spent an hour writing your wife an e-mail with encouraging thoughts and never got a response. Now she is kind of put off and has instructed me not to offer her assistance to anyone else.

Just thought you should know.

Cheers!

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

My wife left Russia right after completing just one year of university studies. She started over here at the local junior college and has now transferred to a four year school and will be done this summer. She is going to apply for a masters program in the winter as well. But job wise, she has been unable to find anything more than what most students can find part time.

But hey, you can use me as an example. I came over from the USSR when I was six and am now earning a decent wage as a consumer bankruptcy attorney. But that took 19 years to accomplish.
