Getting parents to move house hold goods while AOS pending

Hi Folks,

I just thought I'd post this in case it was helpful to anyone.

When I originally crossed the border to activate my K1 and get married, I was not able to fit all my house hold goods in the truck and had to leave some stuff at my parents in Canada. Mostly my upright piano and some larger furnature. The idea was to bring the rest down at the earliest opportunity. Since I'm waiting for AOS and AP to go through, I can't go back across the border to get it yet, however my husband just got some time off work and now will be the only opportunity we have for months to bring it down to FL.

To make a long story short, we decided to have my parents load up my stuff and drive it accross the boarder to my husbands parents place in WA and we would pick it up from there and have a little holiday driving cross country back to FL with the rest of our stuff that we originally left behind.

I called the crossing at Sumas, BC/Washington crossing, and they said to give my parents a copy of my K1 and an itimized list of what they were bringing down.

Basically my parents had no problems moving my household items accross the border in my absence. The guard only asked to see the copy of the K1 then sent them on their way.

I had given them my marriage licence, NOA's for AOS, EAD and AP as well as my boimetrics letter and a signed letter of permission stating why they were doing this for me, but the guard was not interested in any of that. All in all they were at the border only a couple minutes.

Hope this is helpful to anyone who may be thinking of doing the same thing.

Glad it helps, if anyone finds themself in the same situation, I recommend calling the actual crossing ahead of time and letting them know what you are doing. That's what we did and I think it helped quite a bit, because they had some warning that my folks would be comming through. Get the name of the guard that you speak to on the phone then you can give that name to whom ever is moving your stuff.
