Hmmm, yes, I think the "net" concept remains elusive to some.

I imagine that if Palin was asked to get specific about what "pro-America" means, she'd have a tough time defining it w/o resorting to simplistic, knee-jerk drivel about "this great nation." The divisive nature of her language is astounding.

Re: welfare and blue vs. red states, the per-capita statistics are pretty even. Nebraska's right in the middle. Several blue states (Oregon, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, for example) have fewer per-capita recipients of public assistance.

Doesn't appear to be even to me at all - the majority of the net contributors are blue states. In other words, those who suggested that the anti-American (read blue) states are the mooches were just plain wrong. In fact, it's the opposite. Of course there's the big city/blue correlation, but I've gathered we're just ignoring that at our convenience. :)

What happens is these red state hicks come to the 'big city' and all they see are the hobos on the sidewalks. They miss the big picture - of millions of people working hard, working late, working multiple jobs, producing the overwhelming majority of this country's gross product. No, they don't see any of that, all they see is what affirms their own prejudices - the homeless and loiterers.

I was just referring to the per-capita numbers of welfare recipients in various states, refuting the idea that blue states are disproportionately full of welfare-collecting America haters (and the occasional librul yuppie elitist, of course).

Oh I know, I was just taking it to the next level (you know, actually inserting feet into mouths).

I want to become 50 separate countries. I think anti-America Massachusetts will do just fine. Not so sure about some of those pro-America states though.

Western Mass wants to split with Boston already.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt
