I'm a US citizen, married to a British citizen. We're planning on moving to the UK in mid-April of 2009. I know that once I am approved for my visa I have 28 days to enter the UK. My question is this- I know that I have to go online and file for my visa (and pay my fee). I was told that I would then schedule a biometrics appointment (there is a location in my city, so that should be easy enough). After that, I know that I have to send all of my information off to LA and then wait the 5-10 days to see if I'm approved-- to the question-- do THEY schedule my biometrics appointment or do I do that when I'm online applying for my visa? Am I going to have to call the biometrics place and make an appointment after I've filed online? How long could this take? We're taking a boat across and time is very important here (thanks to the ridiculous, 'you must enter within 28 days' rule). How long will it take after I file and pay online to get my biometrics appointment? Are we talking days? Months? Do they send me a letter and say, 'ok, now go'? or do I make the appointment myself. This whole thing is making me insane. Working out the timing is almost literally killing me. Is there anyone who can help with any sort of answers as to how I can time all of this so that I'm applying, getting into the biometrics appointment, sending off the info, receiving my response and then being able to get on the boat in time to be within the required 28 days or should I just jump off of a bridge and end my suffering now?

Thanks

nic

Hi there. This forum is for people moving to the US, not from it, so you might not get much of a response to your question.

You'd be better off asking your questions here http://talk.uk-yankee.com/

Good luck with everything.

after u fill the application online, it will automatically direct you to the biometric appointment page. then u will see all the biometric appointement offices around your location.then u will click the closest one and the available days, click on the day of your availabity, then will prompt you to payment section.after the payment online u will print all the application form and the biometric appointment page then u will go to the biometric office on the day you selected and get your biometric done, after that u will then send your application to UK embassy having jurisdiction over your place of residence. but mind you i dont know if all these information apply to your type of visa.
