On Wednesday:

"I think that Gwen Ifill is a professional, and I think she will do a totally objective job because she is a highly-respected professional," McCain said.

On Thursday:

"Frankly, I wish they had picked a moderator that isn't writing a book favorable to Barack Obama,'' McCain replied. "Life isn't fair, as I mentioned earlier in the program."

and they way the GOP will spin it (thank you, Faux News):

The revelation that moderator Gwen Ifill is penning a book about Barack Obama could work to Sarah Palin's benefit in her debate with Joe Biden, political observers said Thursday.

Palin would seemingly be at a disadvantage against Obama's running mate on Thursday night as a result of Ifill's desire to sell her upcoming book. But some say voters will now be looking closely not only at the candidates' responses to Ifill's questions, but also at the questions themselves.

Given the high profile of the debate - I highly doubt the moderator will skew the questioning against Palin. Though I do wonder why all that Talk Radio guys (and now McCain apparently) are ready to throw the "liberal media" card into the ring if Palin doesn't do a good job (I mean - it doesn't exactly show they have much faith in Palin if they're ready with the excuses).

Having your own political preferences doesn't preclude a journalist from doing their job with a measure of objectivity. I rather doubt that (any) newscaster or reporter is politically ambivalent.

Maybe they just need to be ready with excuses.
