Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing.

The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

What other U.S. Supreme Court cases are currently still generating a lot of political heat?

Isn't the McCain camp's position on the SC that they need to start "applying the law and not legislate from the bench".

Either its a real problem, or it isn't. If it is - its not too much to expect the people behind the platform to come up with examples to justify the position.

I can't imagine a state executive not knowing about Kelo, for one.

That's the only one I could think of off the top of my head. Alaska isn't overdeveloped by any stretch of the imagination so eminent domain probably isn't a major concern there. Also, remember the Federal government owns huges portions of the state. It's not New Jersey.

Alien, your defence of Sarah Palin's ignorance is really very sweet.

Couldn't think of another major court decision either?

Ok, how about the SCOTUS decision allowing Gitmo detainees to sue in federal court?

If you are standing for national election, it stands to reason that you should be fairly well versed on the issues affecting the nation, especially when the campaign (and party) you represent has made certain statements in regards to the Supreme Court.

I don't see how this can be defended to be honest. The onus isn't on anyone here to know about Supreme Court decisions (though obviously it helps), but generally speaking politicians are held to higher standards than Joe Public (this is just working on the premise that being the President or Vice President is not a job anyone can do).

I follow the news and had a year of law school but I haven't heard the name "Scotus" commonly bandied about concerning Gitmo.

This gotcha stuff is just like the SNL sketch of Obama and Clinton. The press hurls a tough question at Clinton and tells Clinton the right answer then Obama parrots the given answer.

This stuff should generate a big viewing audience for the debates to see if Palin blows it or Biden comes up with more gaffes.

Every time I see SCOTUS, I somehow always read it as #######...... But then I think how apt that is.... hairy, wrinkled, and full of nuts.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
