OK its vitriolic to say the least. But why does anyone care what a columnist in Canada writes about political candidates in the US?

Dog has no problems w/ foreign sources when they favor his argument... ;)

That's nice and all - but it doesn't really answer my question.

Just pointing out both sides.

Both sides?

How come none of them is my side?

oh, you've made your side perfectly clear.

I have? I don't recall taking a side in this thread.

All I asked was why anyone cares what a Canadian journalist writes about an American politician.

Fair question I thought.

Oh, here's another one from Pravda. This is fvucked up!

Palin – the Devil in disguise

...

Sarah Palin, Mrs. Nobody know-it-all shreiking cow from Alaska, the joke of American politics, plied with a couple of vodkas before letting rip in front of incredulous audiences while McCain coos in the background, cuts a ridiculous figure as she strives to be taken seriously.

...

So Sarah Palin, Mrs. Hockey Mom housewife-cum-small-town gossip merchant and cheap little guttersnipe, suppose you shut up and allowed real politicians and diplomats to do their work? Threatening Russia with a war is perhaps the most irresponsible thing anyone could do at this moment in time. Have you any idea what a nuclear holocaust is?

...

And have you not forgotten, you pith-headed little bimbo from the back of beyond, that small detail about the slaughter of Russian citizens by Georgians, which started the whole debacle? So next time suppose you keep your mouth shut and while you’re at it, make sure the members of your family keep their legs shut too. Your country has enough failed mothers as it is.

That guy has a serious hard-on for Russia's nuclear response. Wow - what a nut.

Coming from a columnist at publicly funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), this is an unbelievable display of venomous and vulgar journalism...

It's a op-ed piece from a "foreign" source. Kinda like the plethora of opinion pieces constantly referred to in the OT every single day. This one just happened to come from outside the country.

Poor research, dev. Krugman and Friedman are not exactly foreign sources. Der Spiegel published these opinions based on a sharing agreement with the NYT - where the pieces where originally published. It's all American, baby. The other article was indeed German made but is still not precisely foreign to me either seeing that I am a born and raised German. Thanks for playing, though.

Gotta ask: Is the bitterness really still clouding your view this much? I almost feel sorry for ya'. Almost.

Der Spiegel is a decent outlet - better Euro coverage than the BBC.

Der Spiegel isn't what it used to be when Augstein ran the magazine. But it's still one of the best news magazines out there. I enjoy reading it.

Hitler used to read Der Spiegel!

Neat trick seeing that the first issue appeared in January 1947. Hitler was kind of dead at that time...

Still name-calling when you have no argument. Some things never change, do they? The initial issue #6 brought up was using foreign source. Has nothing to do with the birthplace of the author.

If you care to waste your time worrying about strangers on the internets, by all means, have at it. :P

Difficulty reading again? Two of the three were American pieces where the German source (where I happened to run across them) pointed right back to the NYT - an American source, last time I checked. I have my heart in two places - here and Germany. Not all that unusual for the VJ crowd, I would say. But keep complaining if it helps you with your frustrations.

This still does not answer the question of why we should care about what a Canadian journalist thinks about Sarah Palin..

Because criticism is wrong no matter who does it.

If you're a foreigner, you don't know #### and shouldn't be. If you're an American, you're some nutcase traitor who shouldn't be listened to anyways.

The one thing that's missing is the possible admission that we could actually be fvcking things up. Both people far too attached to their political party aren't willing to consider that.
