My hubby got a new job and we're trying to fill out all of his benefits paperwork. His work offers medical& dental insurance (for the both of us) for about $60. Currently, we are both covered by medical insurance & dental from my job (about $80). Should we sign up for both and have a primary & secondary? I Would hate to spend extra money, but would hate to miss a good opportunity because I wasn't aware of the benefit.

Thanks in advance for your posts.

Depends on how well your first insurance covers you, and what you estimate your annual costs to be via checkups and accounting for possible emergency runs. I'd say most of the time though I'd find a way to double up to get them to cover as close to 100% as possible.

Both insurance are PPO. They do have very similar coverages.

My insurance: Will cover me 100% if I go to student health (visit, and labs-no deductible), 90% in network, 60% out. Hubby is covered at 90% in network and 60% non-network after a $225 deductible. Immunizations are 100% for both of us. Hospitalization is covered 90%- this includes room board, ICU, labs, physicians, & chemo.

Hubby's insurance: We both have a $200 deductible. Facility charges related to Hospitalization is covered at 100% after we pay $200 per day up to the $600 max (in other words, for stays 3 days or less we pay $200/day and stays 4 days or longer we pay $600 total. Professional charges related to hospitalization is covered at 90%.

I keep thinking if something major happens like a serious car accident that it could wipe out our savings. But if we have both we will be able to financially withstand something like that.

$140 per month isn't a bad price and you would have piece of mind.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
