Hi, this a question for a friend. He didn't file his taxes in 2003 and is wondering if he was supposed to do it, but we can't find anywhere what was the taxable income back then. He only worked for I think about 3-4 months. I would be greateful for any info or a link. Thanks!

If he didn't make enough to need to file, I don't think he needs to for his annual taxes (different story if he was going for, say, financial aid). Around the same time when I was in school full time and made under 10K I didn't even need to file. But I did anyways. I got this nice $1 state check refund, which I promptly framed.

I just hope this isn't regarding a K1 or K3.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Thank you! I don't know how much was withheld, but he made around $6-7,000. I looks like he should be fine.

And no, it has nothing to do with K1 or anything like that.

If he was getting wages or worked on 1099 he needs to file as soon as possible. The IRS probably received his W-2 form or 1099 from the employer. It is possible that he does not owe any taxes because he didn't make enough money but he still should have file the tax return. I am assuming he doesn't owe any taxes because the IRS did not contact him yet. He would have get some refund but the refund could be claimed only within 3 years so he is a little bit too late. If you don't know how much he made that year you can request the transcript from IRS. If he worked for 1099 and the taxes were not withhold he might owe back taxes. Consult the enrolled agent or CPA.
