The comparisons with UK politics are quite simply wrong, not even slightly, but completely.

In your opinion, that is..

I really find these kind of journalistic pieces almost as odious as the jingoistic attack pieces. At least with the jinogists you don't have to contend with all this psuedo intellectualism. Baa, humbug!

Its opinion written to order - and posted by volume rather than quality.

Well, you have made a declarative statement without any supporting evidence.

Perhaps another article is called for - about Berserk forum posters...

So, you insinuated that I am a beserk forum poster by virtue of the fact, that the opinion article I posted did not comport with yours..

How blessed we are on this board to have such an enlightened opinionator like yourself.:dance::dance:

Calm down - the Dev&Metta song and dance of condescension and outrage doesn't wash with me. If nothing else it shows that you (like her) are incapable of controlling your temper.

And to clarify its not that it didn't "comport" with my view but rather that the article appears to have been written to order (which of course it was) and contains some curious factual inaccuracies about the UK political landscape and the comparisons it makes between UK and US politics.

Calm down? incapable of controlling my temper?

Six, you're making a whole lot of ARBITRARY CONCLUSIONS here. Don't you think?:yes::yes:

Do I think? No - not really.

You responded to one of several posts I made in this thread and you picked the most mundane, least relevant comment and most off-topic one to respond to. And the tone of condescension in your reply spells out your attitude quite plainly.

#6 is quite the beserk poster himself. He chases anyone around VJ who dares call him out on his condescension & hot air. Just ask Charles. I only saw this post cuz you quoted him, best to just ignore him.

She has a #######, so I guess that somehow makes her top quality. By political correctness standards.

In the Bay Area what are usually feminists who would be raving about Sarah Palin are pissed off and wondering why she's not doing her motherly task and taking care of her large family, plus an incoming grandchild (which her daughter obviously needs help with), instead running off to do VP work she was condescending toward in the past anyways.

Woolly Thinker's Guide To Rhetoric

Pat yourself on the back

Say things like "This is a trivial issue, there are much more important battles to fight," and then go right on arguing. That way you give yourself credit for having a sense of proportion but still get to go on trying to win the argument.

Fly under the radar

1. Use subtle pejoratives, so subtle that they're almost invisible but prejudice the discussion anyway.

2. Use words that are pejorative to one group and the opposite to the other. 'Science' and 'scientist' are good for this.

Translate

If your opponent talks of evidence, you talk of proof. If your opponent mentions probability, you turn that into certainty.

If your opponent disagrees with your facts, say your opponent is offended. If your opponent claims to know something about the topic under discussion, call your opponent an elitist (or arrogant).

I think that reply says it all really - given the apparent effort you put into that.

I see no reason to alter my original conclusion - Looks like hit the nail firmly on the head.
