Hi to all VJers,

I recently received my Employment Authorization card on the 3rd of September 08. Also i got an email from CRIS saying my AOS

The last processing action taken on your case

Receipt Number: **************

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Card production ordered.

My problem now is to get a Social Security number coz i didn't get a chance to get it before my visa expired. Am i able apply for my social security even if I don't my permanent residency yet. What other requirements or evidences that i could bring to apply for my Social Security. Can i present my employment authorization card as an evidence?

Any help and advises is very much appreciated.

Take your passport , your original marriage certificate, Green Card, and original/certified copy of your birth certificate. I don't think you need the EAD but may as well take it just in case...That should do it!

Since you got the notice that your GC is in production just relax wait it out :)

On average, only 1 week to 1 month total wait for your GC to arrive in the mail, and it only takes a week from the time you apply to the time you get your SS card in the mail. They assign you a number on the spot anyway, so you can go the same day you get your GC and you're golden...go get your bank account/car loan/driver's license/job...

You can already apply for social security even without your green card yet, your ead card will do  To be sure , you can go to a nearest SS office and show the EAD card together with your other passport, marriage certificate and birth certificate and so you can also start with the other processing and don't need to wait for the green card to start what you want to start, like ssn, driver's license, etc.

Check with your state DPS for the driver's license bit...Texas requires a Green Card.

I'm wondering on the SS card, even if you show EAD instead of the Green Card, if they will still print "Not Valid for Work without DHS Authorization"???

Yep its better to check with your state DPS. Hoping they give you SSN valid for work since EAD is a work permit :star::blush:

yes you can get a SSN number even without your green card, all they will ask of you is the employment card and your passport. Go online print up a form fill it up then bring to the SS office then forward it to them and all show all your identification card then that's it. You just wait for like 1-2 weeks then mail na syo SSN mo . Good luck Hope my info help
