Hello Everyone,

I am American and I am currently sponsoring my wife. Since I was a student and had finished school recently, I decided to stay with my wife on a visitors visa in Canada. At first I thought it would take less than 6 months before my wife get's an interview in Montreal, then we would both go back to the US together. However it's been 7 months now and I have been in Canada for 7 months. My wife is in the last stage of her paperwork, she sent in her criminal record and everything, she's just waiting for an interview date to be issued. I really want to stay with her until she finished her immigration process.

Therefore I would like to know, does anyone here know under the "visitor visa" status from US to Canada, how long can I stay for? ( I entered Canada with a passport)

If I stay past the allowable time of the visa, will this create complications for my wife immigration process to the US?

I appreciate your help!!

You're already in Canada for 1 month more than you're allowed. (Did they stamp your passport on the way in? If they did it may have the date you're expected to leave. They rarely stamp mine so you might not have a stamp, either.) And your problem would be with Canada and not the US.

So you have a permanent residence in the US, etc.? You've got your support situation squared?

since you aren't over 90 days yet, you can file to extend your visit in canada.

Hi wowswift,

I was wondering when you say that I am not over 90 days, does that mean, I am allowed 90 after my visa in Canada expires to file for extended visit in Canada? If I want file for an extended visit, how do I go about doing that?

Thank you so much for your help!
