AOS Question

Trying to get a jump on things. For the AOS on the I-485 it asks for family name. We will be married when we submit the paperwork, so do we put my last name, or her maiden name?

My wife put her new married name (my last name) and her surname for her new middle name.

I would like to clarify this to all Filipino once you got here in States Middle name is like second name but for us Filipino we think middle name as our mothers maiden name. Just don't get confused follow what we are used to since we are still under Philippine Passport, married name now become your family name and middle name your maiden name.

Hello Rogail!

When I did my AOS paperwork, I put my Maiden name as Last Name (as written in my passport), though I have intention of using my husband's surname. My AOS papers are still in process now, I am sure when its approved green card will be in my Maiden Name. How do I go about using my married name?

When we went for my AOS interview last November, the CO told me that I should not have changed my middle name (from my mother's maiden name to mine) because things are different in the US. That if I wanted to change it to my maiden name, it should be during the naturalization process. Also, that he would be crossing out my maiden name and changing it back to mother's. However, when I got my green card, my maiden name was used as my middle name. So.. I really don't know what happened I'm just relieved because I had records changed and such, and if the officer had his way, I would've had more name-changing problems!

Because you are still holding Philippine passport so they follow Philippine law. I know this is really confusing all I can say follow whatever we are used too since we are still under Philippine law to avoiding confusion of record ,anyway if you want to change your name you do that once you are granted for citizenship.
