Apparently If I don't inform USCIS of a change of address I could be charged with a misdemenor..??

I have moved twice since recieving 2yr green card and have unfortunately only informed USCIS once.. would this be a cause of concern?..

I think that you will maybe be fine and it depends on how long did you reside in the adress on which you didnt notify the INS .If you resided on that adress 1 month or so and then moved to another one i dont think you;ll be in trouble ,but if you;ve lived on that adress for a long time and didnt notify them,who knows....?.,.

but i hope you should be fine! The main thing is that they know where you are residing at the present time.

Did you report the most recent move, or a prior move?

Yes I informed USCIS twice of the most recent move....Twice, because first time I didn't do a return receipt.....

I have received my GC in august 2004. And in december 2004 we bought a house and moved. But I did not inform INS about it. I even don't know that we have to inform them. Help !!!!!!!!!!!!! Waht to do now? It is only by reading this topic that I knew that I had to inform INS about address changing...

Fill out form AR-11 .... goto USCIS.GOV and type in AR-11 in the search box... best you can do is tell USCIS now about it..

Oh get a return reciept as well, because you might need prove later on down the line...

There has been some horror stories with respect to USCIS sending correspondance to the wrong address..

Don't forget to send form I865 also, it's sponsor's change of address form. If you did not send it yet, just do it now. I don't think there will be any problems. Better late than never.

Most probably best to wait then.. they will have your new address on the I-751 form you sent in ...

Again, the AR-11 does NOT change your mailing address.

Changing your mailing address via a new form (your I-751) does NOT comply with the rule about reporting your address.

They go to/happen in two, unrelated places. Filing AR-11 will not confuse anyone.

You are required to file AR-11, and your Sponsor is required to file I-865. Relevant laws are cited in the links below.

To successfully change address, from the Dept of Overkill:

-file AR-11 as required by law. This does not change your *mailing* address, but it informs USCIS where you might have been, at one time. Just do it, it's the law http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/address.htm

How Do I Report a Change of Address to the USCIS?

AR-11 does not generally generate a NOA receipt. Send by trackable mail.

-Copy of AR-11 to any LOCAL or district office where you might have a file. Include a letter saying: change my mailing address

-copy of AR-11 to any Service Center where you might have a file. Include a letter saying: change my mailing address

-Phone call to 1-800 MisInformation line with the request: please change my mailing address

-file I-865 for USC Sponsor as required by law. You *may* get a NOA for this one and it *might* change the Sponsor's mailing address. Or not.

-file Change of Address and Mail Forwarding with the USPS. Your USCIS mail *might* get forwarded to your new addy. Or returned to USCIS, you never know. Unfortunate side effect: the PO sells your new address to bulk mailers and you are now back on every junk mailing list under the sun.

-Follow up phone call to 1-800 to see if address change is captured.

-Cross fingers and keep an eye on processing times and when you expect to be contacted. Don't let it go for ages and then say 'dude, where's my case?'.©
