Thai Passport Innacuracy?

My Fiancee's Thai passport has her labeled as a Mrs. when she's not married... Anyone else run into this? Should I start panicking? lol

Hi Eric,

Never heard of such a thing. Perhaps she can phone and see how to get it corrected, the earlier the better. She has to prove that she is legally free to marry. The processing time in Thailand for passports is very fast.

What does her Thai ID show? If it shows "Miss", then she should go get the passport re-issued correctly. If her ID shows, Mrs., well then she has been married before. It used to be in Thailand that you could not change from Mrs. back to Miss on your Thai ID card even if you were divorced. That changed recently (within the last year) so that ID can be changed back now to Miss.

OK, that makes sense because she was married before. Now that I recall, her Thai ID did show "นาง" I didn't know the title stuck even after a divorce. Thanks!

You will need a copy of her divorce certificate (and perhaps a certificate from the amphur stating that she is single and free to marry). You might want to e-mail the embassy and ask.
