mistake in filing 2004 taxesle

Hi all,

There i got a letter from IRS saying that i have to amend my taxes for yr 2004 as i filed wrongly my mother as dependent.

So they hv sent me form 1040X which is 2 pages i need help to fill this out..

Infact my mom's boss had filed her taxes and i filed her as a dependent.. so how i do get this sorted now

any help which i can get i spoke to the accnt who did this and he said he could do it in april which is to far the notice which i recd says i have to do it in 90 days..

so i think i can do it myself i hv my 2004 papers with me if there are some sample forms which i can look and file accordingly

Thanks any and all suggestions are welcome

Jan- Recd NOA1

Feb- Recd RFE for missing BC

Mar- Recd RFE for missing BC

Apr- NOA2 Case approved

May- NVC case #

May- paid $88 AOS FEE

Filed: Timeline

You just file the 1040X like you did the 1040 originally except that you don't have that dependent. Thus, your AGI is going to go up as is your tax burden. You calculate the difference between the original 1040 bottom line and the 1040X bottom line, factor in any interest/penalty if applicable and cut the IRS a check for that amount that you submit along with your 1040X.
