I hate to admit it but haven't been there for too many years. If it is like the rest of this part of the world I would guess they are still very low. Used to date a gal from Marysville many years ago and we always went to Beatrice, did you ever get to Beatrice or was the draw of Lincoln just too overwhelming?

I was born in Beatrice! Grew up in Wilber/Crete area though. My grandparents were married at the courthouse in Marysville too (the Black Squirrel capital!), as was my uncle and second wife (who lived in Hollenberg).

I'm very familiar with that area as my friends and I used to like to go down to Alcove Spring and hike. We'd always stop at that old skool greasy spoon diner on the highway going towards Topeka...I don't remember the name but they had pretty good food.

Small world eh?

Small no, tiny yes. The former GF lived on a farm between Hanover and Hollenberg. Yes, we had to see the wonderous black squirrels, actually forgot about that until you mentioned them. My assistant is from Deshler and the other western Branch Manager is from Greenleaf. I have a family reunion next month and all of the cousins from Columbus and Fremont will be there.

Hate to hijack the thread, Oberlin is not too far from Hays. We are trying to go to Oktoberfest this year, not the wife still months out. It is a very good time to meet many people from all over the region.

I'm very familiar w/ Deshler...I went to high school in Dorchester and we played them in sports. The Deshler Dragons I believe? They also used to have a big broom factory there but I think the tornado that went through there several years ago blew it away.

Sorry about hijacking the thread. Out in that part of Kansas it is certainly God's country, but the people there are very warm and friendly.
