name change certificate

Hi, I've searched the forums and sent 3 emails to the Bangkok embassy and can't find an answer to this question.

Packet 3 says that if either the petitioner or beneficiary has changed their name, we need to submit a name change certificate. I (the USC petitioner/wife) changed my last name after we got married. But I didn't get any name change certficate, just a new Social Security card. I've never even heard of a name change certificate in the US, although I know they have those in Thailand. Do I just show my Social Security card with the new name or do I need something else?

It's probably no big deal, but as you all know, we just want to be completely sure we are not missing anything!

If I remember right, most of us in the states use our marriage licenses/certificates to change our name. I think the consulate would be fine with that. Have you changed it in your passport and on other official IDs? My DIL is Thai and used the marriage certificate to get a new passport and ID with her married name.

Good luck on emailing Bangkok.

Same for both US and Thailand - for name change because of marriage, submit marriage certificate - for name change because of divorce, submit divorce decree - for name change because of other reason, then you should have gotten a decree from the court/district office where you officially changed your name.
