I filled out the paperwork because I am obsessive about details and understood the process much better than my American did. Basically I printed out the paperwork during his Bangkok visit in April and had him fill out the biographic information and the I-129F and I photocopied his passport and boarding passes, and then I just re-typed it all up and sent the entire package to him to sign, add his passport pictures and a bit more evidence. It comforted me to do most of it because I would have been paranoid if I'd left it all up to him and could not see the app before he sent it off.

Laura - I was in exactly the same boat as you. We put off filing the paperwork, because the very idea of it was stressing my fiancé out, until I was able to go and visit him and do everything for him. All he had to do was sign his name where necessary; our petition was approved okay and we've encountered no problems. Like stardusted I am obsessive about details and would've much preferred to do the paperwork anyway, regardless of how my US fiancé felt.

It doesn't matter who fills it out or gathers the evidence as long as its genuine evidence and he signs the papers. I think the bigger question is....does he really not understand the paperwork, or is he just not ready to make the commitment that paperwork represents? Forgive me, just a question that popped into my head when I read your post.

To be honest this concerned me at first. I was slightly irritated with my fiancé's apparent complete lack of interest. However, once I visited him I could see that he really does care, and honestly the paperwork really was stressing him out; it was an alien concept to me (I love forms!) but he is genuinely worried by pdf files. :D And once the ball was set rolling and our petition was sent out he did manage to fill out the affidavit of support on his own. ;)

I'm the USC, but even still I'm definitely the one who has done the homework and hard paperwork. My husband, though he certainly cares, doesn't have the patience for paperwork. In my job, that's about all I do!

Just make sure that he knows the answers to the questions on the applications so that when you have your AOS interview, he's knowledgeable. And make sure he keeps a copy of ALL documents so that you don't have to drag a big binder of paperwork when you move here.

Good luck!
