I hope someone can help me with several questions I have. They concern the income required to be a sponsor.

1. When determining the household size to know if the requirements are met for the 125% above poverty level, currently my household size is 2 ( myself and my child) but will be changed to 3 when my fiance arrives. Do I count all 3 as the size eventhough he is not here yet?

2. I currently receive a widows pension from the government for myself and my child through my late husband. I know mine will stop once I am married but the child's does not. Can that income be counted toward my annual income to be used to determine my income ?

3. I also have a property I may be renting out. Is there any specific documents I should obtain to use this money as income?

4. In showing assets to help with this, I have a second vehicle as well as the property I may rent and another piece of real estate. What would I need to show the value of this type of asset?

5. If I also try for a co sponsor would their income need to be enough to just take care of my fiance as though he were living in their household? Does their household income need to at least meet the 125% above poverty level amount?

1. You would include you, your child, and your fiance, for a total of 3 people. Yes your fiance would be included, this is the whole purpose of the affidavit, to see if you or your co-sponsor is financially able to support the beneficiary. So you would need to meet the criteria for supporting a household of 3 people.

2. I am a teeny bit unsure about this question, sorry! Are you asking if your child's pension can be used to count towards your income, or if your previous pension counts toward LAST YEARS income?

3. Sorry

4. This has been debated before, although I am not 100% sure what the verdict was. Basically, some people count a car as an asset, and I guess technically it could be, for if it came down to it and you needed cash you would be able to sell it for cash, however it's a depreciating asset, but I guess still an asset. In terms of the I-134, I think the govt. would consider it an asset as it can easily be sold for money.

5. For a co-sponsor, they need to meet the same criteria you would need to meet, as you are the primary sponsor.

For instance, say you had a sister, and she agreed to be your co-sponsor. Pretend she has two children. She would need to be 125% above the poverty limit and able to support a household of four. Herself, her two children, and your fiance.

So she needs to meet the criteria for a household of 4.

Basically, they need to make sure that if something goes down and you are unable to financially support your fiance, that there is someone who can pick up the slack and support your fiance while you cannot. The embassy will look at both affidavits and pick the one that can support the fiance.

You still need to fill our an I-134 Affidavit of support for yourself, EVEN if you plan on having a co-sponsor. Yours is still required.

I am a student and am getting a co-sponsor. Because I am a full-time student I don't have a job. The embassy will look at both affidavits (mine and my co-sponsor) and choose the one that can support my fiance.

u count the house members all under 18 years and not working and u can ur house contract as proof that u have the house

Not entirely true. Members of the household who are working can still be declared a dependent. I am 22 and am attending college and have part time jobs sometimes, and I am able to be declared as a dependent of my mother.

This is true. There are many college students who work and go to school but are still dependent on their parents.

Thank you for your answers. Actually yes, I was wondering if the income my child gets could be counted toward the household income. I am uncertain about that. Or since it comes from the government (Social Security) would that be something I could not count?
