Upwardly Global is a group that works with recent immigrants to the U.S. to help find them job appropriate to their professional training and education level. As most of us here can attest, it's often hard for an immigrant to find a job, especially if he has a strong accent and has no professional contacts. It's worse for those without an American spouse.

Among the immigrants who have trouble finding jobs are some of the Iraqi translators who helped in Iraq. The U.S. has finally granted them visas. And that's where this group comes in.

They're holding mock interviews and resume-building workshops and employer networking June 8 and 9, and they need volunteers to be the mock interviewers and to help with resumes. (Employers looking for translators & other educated professionals are welcome, too.)

So I'm throwing this out there for two reasons:

1) It's a resource for new immigrants that VJ might not have known about.

2) Some of you in the DC area might want to volunteer, for this or other events.

Here's the link to the Iraqi event: http://www.upwardlyglobal.org/events/summitreg.php
