Back in 2003, the company I was working for at the time had a contract with Lucas Arts to make an Indian Jones game for the PS2 and Xbox that would coincide with the next Indy movie. George Lucas ran into issues with the script and then prior commitments of Harrison Ford and Spielberg kept the project on hold so the game was shelved. Now, 5 years later, the movie is about to be released, so I thought I'd share this. I was very proud of what we had worked on at that point. The modeler, Peter Han, did an amazing job of capturing Harrison Ford's likeness and getting it to work on a low polygon model for a video game. Our lead animator left and I was given the job of creating his run, designing his fighting moves and navigation. It was the best experience I've had since moving into video games.

Here's some close-ups of the model's face (Peter Han - artist, modeler)

...and here's some of the animation I had done:

Pity - there hasn't been a decent Indy game in years. Last one was that not so great Tomb Raider rip.

Fate of Atlantis was the best - one of the old Lucasarts point and click adventures.

It had so much promise...Indy was able to hang on to ledges, swing on vines, not too mention great Hollywood style fighting.

They did that in the Xbox game that came out in 2002 (Emperor's Tomb I think it was) - but it was buggy (unlike the old Tomb Raider games) and the story wasn't great.

There was a boss battle with a giant Octopus which was a bit silly and OTT even for Indiana Jones.

Then again I hear Indy escapes a nuclear blast in the new movie so we'll see I guess...

Did you read yesterday that Lucas & Spielberg are actaully considering doing more Indy movies if this one does well and the fans approve. And I thought Harrison Ford was getting long in the tooth as is...

Soon it will be "Indiana Jones and the Nice Cup of Tea"

No...I didn't hear that - maybe he's going to have Shia Labeouf take over?

I think Brendan Frasier's done a pretty good job with the Mummy series in terms of capturing the campy, down-on-his-luck, adventurer. They'll have to be careful that to not make more Indy films become icons of themselves, especially since the original Indy was more or less a tribute to the adventure films of earlier years.

There's actually going to be a new Mummy film out later this year - with Jet Li as an evil (of course) Chinese emperor.

Nathan Fillion (from Firefly) would actually fit into that sort of role pretty well. He always seems to go through the wringer and come out swinging, albeit with cracked ribs and a bloodshot eye.

Not what they implied in the end today!

They had us fill out surveys when we left the theatre.

Did you like the movie? :)

It was AWESOME! Except for the skull - it look like it has saran wrap in it.
