Question about scheduling medical exam before interview at HCMC

Does the interview letter show the date of the medical examination? Or as long as we receive the letter, my wife can bring it to Cho Ray Hospital at anytime before the interview for the medical checkup?

I have called NVC again to see if they have any info regarding the medical, but the operator didn't know. I also called the Department of State and they can only verify the date and time of the interview and stated that a letter has been sent out to me in US on May 9th. The problem is that I won't be back home in a couple weeks to see what the actual letter says. My wife will probably receive this appointment letter in the coming weeks, but the mailing system is very unreliable in her town. So there is a chance she might not get the letter in time before the interview on June 5th. I have contacted US Consulate in HCMC and await for their answer to see whether my wife can come there in person to pick the interview package up or not. Anyway, if you have any information regarding the medical exam, please pass along. I would greatly appreciate it!

My fiancée went the week before her interview. It took her two days to complete the medical evaluation and vaccinations. There are many people who go the day before or even the day of their interview. I believe that an appointment letter is needed in order to have the examination and vaccinations. I am sure that she can stop by and pick it up from the embassy since you will be right there.

Congratulation tyrobe. Mine just completed on May 13 . I just came back from out of town . Anyways, what do you bring for interview ? ( Tax form, employment letter, ds 230......) Please let me know. I think you can pick up at the embassy or scan your copy through email because Cho Ray hospital just want to know what date for your interview. Also, you have to call CR hospital to make appointment in advance 84-8-8565703 so your wife do not have to wait for another day. Good luck and have fun in Ho Chi Minh city. Drop me some experience when you are there. iou2004@yahoo.com

Tyrobe

The Standard procedure for HCMC is to wait 4 weeks after the Packet 4 was sent before allowing your wife to pick up the Packet 4. However there has been times when they did allow it to be picked up before 4 weeks, the reason is usually the date of the interview. Since your interview is June 5th it's very likely they will let her pick it up since they like to give the interviewee time for the medical exams. Our Packet 4 letter said to get the vaccinations and medical exam done right away. Thi decided on IOM (you have to pay in USD only) since she thought it would be a cleaner place Cho Ray (you pay in VND ony). In either case, you have to make an appointment, have the letter, a passport photo and your passport/ID.

In the case of the vaccinations, Thi brought her records but they didn't want to look at them. The woman said no, they aren't needed. That's not what our Packet 4 letter said.......They just gave her the shots she is suppose to have. In her case, she already had a couple of them....... No harm according to her US doctor, just a way to make money (you pay in VND BTW) for the Quarantine Service of HCMC....

Okay, I got it now. The interview letter doesn't specifically state the time and date for the medical exam. As long as we get the letter, we can make an appointment ourselves but make sure to bring the letter during the medical exam and vaccinations.

I'm waiting for the reply email from the U.S. Consulate now. As soon as they says it's alright to come and pick P4 up, I'll have my wife to head over their way.

Hi Tyrobe.

You will reciept interview letter from NVC early than your wife about 10 days . You'd better scan the letter and mail to you wife by computer . She will print it.

Then, she take that letter to 40 Nguyen Van Troi, Phu Nhuan ( International health Quarantine Center) to inject vaccinations. After that, she take the letter to Cho Ray hospital to get medical examination .

Yours interview letters are the same.

This is my experience.

Good luck

Must have the Interview Appointment letter in Packet 4 (either via slow, slow, slow postal mail or in person, if you go in person and request it, nicely, and repeatly. My wife failed the first try, but succeeded on the second)....

Then you bring it to Quarantine Service in Phu Nhuan for vaccinations (paid in VN Dong).........

Then you bring the Vaccination paperwork AND the Appointment letter and 02 passport photos to either Cho Ray Hospital (paid in VN Dong, but can be too far away for certain people) or IOM (near Ho Con Rua and paid in US Dollars only) for your medical examination. If everything's well, 2 or 3 days later, you'll get the sealed envelope for your interview. As you didn't pass the med exam, you'll be instructed on what you should do next.

Best of luck!

That's cool, man. When you said "bring it", do you mean they will take walk-in? or calling to schedule the appointment ahead of time is required? Lastly, can my wife do both the vaccinations and medical exam all in one day?
