Or do they learn this once they get into office? They have power and can vote however they want. All they have to do is keep as many people that elected them as prosperous as possible and they will get re-elected. American care first about their money and everything else comes second.

This is true. We'll see this election cycle how the numbers pan out.

Absolutely biometric.

An ID should be confined to something we carry, not be something literally on ourselves. Although nearly infallible for identification purposes, I'd see it as the ultimate in intrusion and will not accept it. We are not cattle.

National ID- OK.

Human tracking- NOT OK.

Unfortunately they will not give us the choice. If they decide to impliment then they will include anything they want.

Oh, right. I forgot the part where we lived in a democracy.

The US is not a Democracy, it is a Republic.

Um... hum... save us the lecture on what is obvious and what is permitted as imposition. For the record I agree in substance.

I strongly doubt US Citizens will allow their government to track their every move ala 1984.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, the Patriot Act started us down the path and more laws will follow in the name of national security. Just wait and see....You are already being tracked in many ways, you just don't know it.

There is plenty I know about that subject. ;)

Laws can me amended, repealed, and discontinued. Thank God for that.

yes true but will they? People are complaining more and more about illegal aliens so what will the federal government ultimately do to solve the problem? If fake ID's are a major problem how will the government resolve this issue? If ID theft is a problem what will they do? The private business section is looking for solutions to theft, what is the solution?

They will come up with a solution but we will have to have something major happen to scare the public into acceptance. Maybe we need to pull completely out of the Middle East and give them some time to regroup and reorganize?

I am not saying this is all that will happen in the US but what is going to happen? I am just pointing out some of the solutions the government has obviously looked at seriously.

If someone has read the Bible look at what it says about taking the mark of the beast and that without it no commerce can be conducted. Does this mean without some mark or device on or implanted you will not be able to buy, sell, or trade anything?

I am just throwing this out for people to think about where we may be going in the US?

Growing perhaps among a not so large sector of the population. Believe it or not, most people in the USA could care less about illegals in relevance to the bigger fish to fry in Washington.

People will want to value their privacy a heck of a lot more than what we may suddenly think is wise to stem any tide of forgery and fraud in this country. I do not believe Americans to be that ignorant of the sideline uses that can be applied to a traceable population in this way. Unfortunately our track record has not been that regular, which under continued conditions of managing this democracy I'd be so inclined as to agree that the continuation of the erosion of civil liberty and the democratic principles governing this republic are going to be replaced with a biometric public control system more akin to a police state with very rigid political values in force. Fortunately for the citizens of this nation, not everyone is foolish enough to fall for the antics of the politics of fear mongering in lieu of actual, intelligent security and surveillance.

This will spell out a general legal reaction to laws such as the Patriot Act that hopefully should take us away from the police state many are blindly accepting as "normal course."

You said it "blindly accepting as "normal course" too many of us accept things blindly and even the educated people. Look at Iraq, All of America including the Democrats blindly accepted going to war. Now they all say it was wrong so lets just see what has to happen to get us to accept giving up some more of our freedoms?

It could pushed on us by world banking? The giant retailers? Internet? Employers? Medical industry?

Sure those are all things that we, as a consumer-driven society have been able to swallow without much fanfare.

I still see the capacity (of some being able to lead the blind) to point out what is wrong with the ballgame and we still have these people that are not duped to jump off the bridge with everyone else, to not be so easily fooled. Dissent can be more patriotic than being blind. Of course, that is a matter of degrees as the blind cannot see by definition. Some, like many Democrats, say they have opened their eyes to the trickery. As have the overall consensus of US society as it pertains to the course of this war.

So would America accept microchipping all non citizens? And then all criminals? And then required for citizens to receive a passport?

Now there is an interesting idea... implantable (and removable) microchips on convicts and parolees...

Legal immigrants IMO should not be handled as potential criminals... nor should citizens be subject to it.

If Americans had to wear microchips, it would turn into another fashion accessory. We would be tracked, but we'd make damn sure we looked good while we were.

Hey, if dogs and cats can be microchiped why not us??? The government is wise, just looking for the welfare of the people; war is great, foreigners are bad, speaking more than 1 language is ridiculous. Let's just isolate ourselves from the world by building a wall all around the continental US. Man, them people from England and Hawaii have it made, things would be easier if we were on an island...

The idea would be punitive. Doing so would presume guilt and would go against our presumptive system of innocence until legally proven guilty. Even illegals are guaranteed due process for criminal offenses.

Foreign trade, naaa Hawaii is not part of NAFTA man you have it all wrong. Them people look different than us you know? We are brown, besides they wear Hawaiian shirts all the time. They don't even wear sombreros like me and I feel awkward being around people that don't wear sombreros nor speak spanish.

Damn Hawaiians and their Spanish!!

(FYI... there ARE plenty of Spanish speakers in Hawaii that descended from folks that were there before any Gringos invaded)

Are you suggesting we nuke Mexico and Canada?

Um no! Lets just like open up strip malls all over Mexico (where is that anyway?) and turn Canada into our nature preserve so we can go look at flowers and stuff.
