It's telling that McCain has a good chance against either of them. Given the history of past elections it should be a walk-over for any dem candidate.

50-41 is a pretty big gap, Gary!

There are more polls that show it a dead heat.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

Monday, April 28, 2008

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows John McCain and Barack Obama once again tied, with each attracting 46% of the vote. Four percent (4%) say they would vote for a third party option and 4% are undecided. In a match-up with Hillary Clinton, it’s McCain 47%, Clinton 44%. Daily tracking results are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time (see recent daily results).

McCain leads Obama by fifteen points among White Men and by thirteen points among White Women. Against Clinton, McCain leads by twenty-five points among White Men and by six points among White Women. Obama does better than Clinton among African-American voters while Clinton does better among Hispanic voters.

Republicans are growing more confident about running against Obama and now have no preference as to which Democrat their candidate will run against in the fall. Thirty-seven percent (37%) of Republican voters nationwide now believe the Democratic frontrunner would be the tougher candidate against John McCain. An essentially equal number, 35%, now believe Hillary Clinton would be the stronger Democrat in November. Earlier this month, Republicans overwhelmingly believed that Obama would be the tougher candidate.

Sure, if you pick the one of 2 polls that shows McCain winning. ;)

RCP Average 04/10 - 04/27 Clinton +1.0

Rasmussen Tracking 04/24 - 04/27 McCain +3.0

Gallup Tracking 04/22 - 04/26 Clinton +3.0

Newsweek 04/24 - 04/25 1203 RV Clinton +3.0

USA Today/Gallup 04/18 - 04/20 Clinton +6.0

Cook/RT Strategies 04/17 - 04/20 Tie

ABC/Wash Post 04/10 - 04/13 McCain +3.0

I am picking the two most recent and therefor the most relevant ones.

I posted the most recent one. ;)

Who really cares at this point? The general election hasn't started yet - hard to make any firm predictions as to what way it will go.

The point is, either Clinton or Obama should be polling double digits over McCain. They are not. That says something very bad for the dems.

We need a nominee first.

And from the looks of it you won't have one until August either.

They should be? There's nothing definitive that can be drawn from that - other than the uncertainty over the Democratic nominee.

When the election campaign begins in earnest I'll start paying attention to polls.

One more opinion here to throw into the mix(like we need any more hehe).

I can kind of see how Clinton has a better chance. I've said I'd rather have Obama than Clinton for Pres (I am voting for neither) because, for one of the reasons, I don't want another Clinton in the White House. It will be a lot of "I have to fix what Bush messed up that Bill did right in the WH" bla bla bla. But I think once a Dem nominee is picked, people can't deny that homeland security and security issues in general may pop up again as a big decider. Some people claim Obama will win because people want a change and something new, but I don't trust him to be a good security provider.

And maybe younger people won't care as much but older people will and he will lose votes from them IMO. I think Hillary actually does have more pull on that issue and while I don't like her, my ideologies are closer to her's than to Obama's (though I don't really match with either, but you know what I mean, closer to her than to Obama). But I think McCain's experience will make some people feel more safe having him as Pres over anyone else on the ballot. And some people think he has no chance of winning, but they also thought that about Bush in 2004. So we will see what happens. Nov is a long time away, which means this all will be discussed a million times before then. Oh how fun. :crying::hehe:
