There's consensus in the intelligence community that the WMD's are in Syria........

To the OP....Give it up, we already declared that there's no WMD's in Iraq. We're there, and that's what you should dwell on, not how we got there.

There's the conservative response I've been waiting for! No way friend. This is about accountability, or lack thereof. The W.M.D.'s never existed and the current regime knew it all along. I think this was more about surrounding Iran than it was anything.

I never thought I would say this, but I think they were better off with Saddam. We have wrecked that country on the premise of a lie. Haven't we learned anything as a Country? You've seen Viet Nam. They still haven't recovered.

I don't think it's just us that needs to learn......

Interestingly, I have talked to Thi's oldest brother, a friend of her father's and one of her inlaws. All of them have a similar view. They were on the side of S.Vietnam during the Vietnam War and stayed in Vietnam. Her brother and inlaw both are proud of what they did in the war but look at it as something that happened a long time ago so it's not important now. Today and tomorrow is of more concern to them. Her father's friend is very proud and happy to talk about his role as a translator for the US Army. He is in his seventies but still a cheerful person. I didn't meet him until Thi's going away party. I would have liked to talk to him more but he doesn't live in HCMC and had to leave to return home.

Viet, Thi's inlaw speaks English well (and translated for me at our engagement party so I knew what was going on), so I've talked to him the most about it. He feels that's it sad sometimes that governments don't always do the right things for their people. Governments also don't think about what their actions have on the people in other countries. But he's practical about that and that he lives in a Communist country.

He like most Vietnamese I've talked to, feel the government is ok as long they leave them alone. To improve the quality of their life is most important to the people I've talked to. If the government does things to help that, then the people are happy otherwise they just go about their business trying to have as little contact as they can with the goverment.

In listening to them, I heard a lot of what people in the US say. That's the important thing I think most people should remember, the more we talk and listen to each other, the more we find we are alike even in different countries with different languages and cultures. Governments should remember that when they are dealing with each other. To often it's all about power and money, not people.
