I'll relate a connected story

Many years ago I think I was about 12 or so - I had a skirt that my mom insisted I wear a slip under *rolls eyes* so I wore one and I went to see some pals and one kept saying to me (in a stage whisper) 'I can see george'

Now, when i was 12, kids werent too big on drugs so I didn't think 'she's on crack' but I did wonder if she'd gone a bit loopy..she kept saying it to me, and getting more and more frustrated, and rather annoyed, that I kept giving her blank looks.

I think this went on for about an hour, and I eventually twigged it must MEAN something that was flying over my head, so I whispered back

'Who is george?'

Then she told me THAT was what her family said said if, gasp, shock, your slip was showing.

I think I bypassed the laughter and went straight to mortified (you know how you are at 12, right?) - and I spent the rest of the day paranoid about anyone else 'seeing george'

I gotta say tho that was the ONLY time I ever heard that phrase..
