"When you get the certified birth/divorce certificates and all the financial statements, GET 3 CERTIFIEd COPIES."

1. This was taken from one of the FAQ's. At the risk of sounding like a dummy, can someone explain what a certified copy is and how one goes about getting a document certified (in the US)?

2. Are there any other filing fees prior to the AOS other than for the I-129?

Thanks, glenn

Certified means they are either stamped or have a raised seal which guarantees it is an official document. You can buy certified copies from your county clerk where the divorce was filed and birth certs from the city hall (typically).

Yes, your fiance will have a fee to pay for the medical exam, the visa itself and for delivery of the visa. And of course any travel related costs. Prepare to spend a fair amount of money!

Those costs are fine. I was worried it was going to be closer to $1000 for the medical and visa.

Nah, you get those fees once its time for AOS. Ugh. We're sending my husband's AOS off this week and I am getting so tired of giving USCIS our hard earned money!

Good luck with your visa journey!

I think by the time I get to that stage, I'll just be happy that we're finally starting our life together! It's an expensive journey, but well worth it
