Given that the train of though it basically "His middle-name is Hussein... you know what that means..." (wink, wink) there's simply no substance to it, nothing that could be used as a platform to attack on the candidate's merits (or lack thereof).

As I say - the best way they have been able to spin this is that its some sort of "anti free-speech" thing. Even in that regard, its a pretty poor argument.

Does Obama dislike his middle name being used? I would think not. However, he might find attempts to stop people voting for him based on some convoluted effort to associate his name with links to terrorism irritating although if I was him I wouldn't give a toss because such a ridiculous smear doesn't have a hope in hell of working.

I do agree on this, that there is a high probability that those who employ smear tactics within the ranks for the GOP haven't even attempted any real smears against Obama. They probably know their best bet is to sit quiet and wait to see if he is the nominee and then if he is, they will let fly.

They're just playing like they are dumb to insinuation and context. I haven't read once about Obama saying he doesn't want his middle name used - talk about a straw man argument there. American voters are wiser than some people give them credit for. They see the bigotry for what it is.
