we keep sending jobs over seas for cheap labor but the price of things never go down and they dont stay the same...they go up.

as a auto worker watching jobs leave to mexico for "cheap labor" did u see the price of cars go down? no. why they dont have to pay as much for labor shouldnt that make prices go down? they either stayed the same or went up.why? so ceos can make the profits for their own pockets.

im telling everyone right now..we are going to be a third world country pretty soon.

And yet Georgie says it is not. :P

This is nothing new really. Here in North Carolina where 9 of every 10 epeople used to be employed in the furniture manufacturing business, now are standing in line at the Employment office, and in the front lobby of the ONE remaining US manufacturer in town. Where I work. Most recently Henredon laid off 500+ people and closed up shop and sent all the manufacturing overseas. They kept on less than 20 office employees to work the "business" end of it. Less than half of the plant workers were offered jobs at other smaller Hendredon plants, but they wouldn't pay for them to move (and folks from around here don't move around very well. Some folks have never even been to Charlotte, and its only an hour and a half away!) Nevermind moving anyone overseas! Ain't gonna happen.

And most other furniture manufacturers who 10 years ago used to run 3 shifts 7 days a week, are now down to 1 shift for 4 days or 3 days per week. So most folks here even if they DO have a job, are seriously underemployed and flat broke. And there's just no other jobs within easy reach. Not even McDonald's or Wendy's or or or...those jobs are filled up by the teens and tweens.

When a long held tradition of industry leaves town as it has here in North Carolina, people just don't know what to do with themselves. Most of them at Henredon had only ever worked at Henredon, since they quit or finished highschool. Now they're 50 somethings with no other prospects. Its really quite depressing to be here. I feel for the folks at Honeywell.

I hope the voters of North Carolina send a message to George on May 6.

There are some products that say, 'Made in the USA'. When I was in Home Depot the other day looking for a wrench, I noticed the ones made in the states were a couple of dollars more, but I thought it's worth paying the extra money.

Good man. Never thought you'd care.

I wish we'd start putting heavy tariffs on products made in China. We have a huge trade imbalance with China, making us not only economically vulnerable, but vulnerable to whatever standards they produce their products - prison labor, toxins, etc. It's not just about protecting our economy but protecting our quality of life. Being able to buy a toilet brush for a dollar at Walmart came at a price...it's just now sinking into people's minds that it's a heavier price to pay than paying a few dollars more for a toilet brush made in the USA.
