Are you also into Dr. Who and Life on Mars? Hubster also loves/loved those programs.

We watch a number of Brit programs and I have to say the open sexuality sometimes still surprises me because of how relatively puritanical US TV seems. It doesn't bother me, I'm just occasionally still caught off guard by how much skin and language is ok! LOL

The Life on Mars spinoff set in the 80s starts today in the UK. I'll be checking that out whenever it becomes available.

As for Torchwood, I've seen a couple of episodes, but want to wait until we've watched the first couple of series of (new) Dr.Who before continuing.

oh yeah, hot and cold running boobies there

I showed my wife a TV series from the early 70's called Gangsters. She was very surprised at the amount of nudity allowed on tv back then.

I need to watch Life on Mars. I even blind-bought the first DVD box set, on recommendations from friends and family. But I just haven't got around to watching it yet.

I have always loved British TV and my latest find is Torchwood. The show is very fun to watch although it does get a little OTT with the bi-sexual stuff. Anyone else here watch it?

maybe that's common in britain.

Maybe. You don't see it much here on TV. GB has always been more open about sexuality on TV. Thats why I always loved Monty Python and Benny Hill. :P

I liked the older Dr Who. Tom Baker was the best doctor. I haven't gotten into the new ones yet.

I love Torchwood. Never miss it! I love Doctor Who, Catherine Tate, and many of BBC America's fine offerings. UK basically allows virtually anything to be shown after the watershed. I have no problem with tv content - if something offends, you simply switch channels. My absolute fave however is 24, and I do sometimes get engrossed in the re-runs of Charmed which are on every morning.

The thing that bothered us about BBC America was that they would show half or more of a series of episodes of a program and then they would promote the rest of the series to buy on DVD.... GRRRRRRRR!!! I don't know if they do that with all of their programs that are available on DVD, but it seemed a stinky thing to do... so we just download 'em. AND we get to watch them hot off the presses so to speak, instead of waiting for BBC America to get around to showing them.

I wish the US had a watershed hour but too many people would get their panties in a twist if they saw a #######...

I love life on mars...however not sure if an american would get a lot of the references for instance the behaviour of the police is so reminiscent of the sweeney - but you would have to see the sweeney to see how very un pc it would be today ... another one for me is shameless....and going back some i also liked red dwarf...

Oh Shameless is just pure viewing pleasure. I get your point about Life on Mars being reminiscent of The Sweeney. The "guv" is really like the "guv" in The Sweeney so Im sure that was deliberate.

LOVE Torchwood and LOVE Captain Jack. And I ADORE John Barrowman, he is very sexy. I have seen a few interviews with him and he explained that Captain Jack isn't bisexual - he'll just shag anything with a hole, doesn't care if it is male, female, human or alien.

John Barrowman himself is actually Scottish but moved to the USA when he was a teen (or thereabouts) and he can click back into his Scots accent just like that *clicks fingers*. He is also gay and lives with his bloke in Cardiff. If you see him interviewed he is bloody hilarious and fabulous to watch. Can you tell I like him?

I remember when John Barrowman was on the show that was picking a "Maria" for the stage show - he was showing the male lead how to kiss the leading lady - and i have to tell you ...there were ladies in the cast who wanted to line up for a turn - he was that convincing!

I've introduced Alex to Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Black Books, Father Ted, Jonathan Creek, Planet Earth and, lately, Midsomer Murders (my favourite guilty viewing pleasure...fortunately he loves it too :D). Also been trying to track down episodes of the Goon Show (individual CDs are so expensive!).

I think he likes more British shows than me, now. He asked for Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Look Around You and The Mighty Boosh for Christmas last year (I really appreciate Look Around You but the other two aren't quite to my tastes). He loves them, though. He's also a much bigger fan of Black Books and Spaced than I am.
