Go Ireland!

My housemate and I try to use reusable bags. I usually carry a cloth bag folded up in my handbag so if I need to buy something on the way home from work I don't need to use a plastic bag.

The Co-op supermarkets here I believe sell plastic bags that degrade in a matter of days, which is a little better than your standard variety.

One thing, though...what will dog owners do? :P I know my mother uses all her plastic bags for scooping up doggy business.

there are all kinds of biodegradable bags made specifically for picking up dog poop. You can buy thm pretty much anywhere. I get them at Big Lots, something like 40 bags for $2.

plastic grocery bags are not biodegradable, so when you toss out the poop in the bag, it'll still be there 1000 years from now. The biodgradable ones, it'll all just melt away in a couple of weeks or so.
