Police Certificate

My fiance has a Police Certificate and a Passport Certificate dated March 20, 2007. Is this outdated? Can you resubmit these?

Though the police certificates are supposedly valid for one year, I heard that they should be no more than 6 months old at the time of the interview. If I were you, I would have him get more recent police certificates.

Concur with ELW. In your case, its better to apply for a new police certificate.

Ok.. so would we need to get both new police certificate and passport...

We are in the process of getting it done, but I was thinking worse case scenario if we don't get it in time we would have these backups....

I told my fiance not to get the Passport clearance, since her passport is 1 year old. but I think she will get it anyway..

This is an interesting question. What happens if you don't get in time to submit at VFS? I think you should get ready with plan of action as to how to deal with such situation rather than getting worried.

Probably you can just explain it in a letter promising to submit it at time of interview and alongwith proof of submission for PCC hand it over to VFS. Then make sure you the PCC in hand before interview date and submit it in interview. Seniors, any advice or guidance in this matter?

Any documents one doesn't have to submit at the VFS office, they just say to bring them to the interview, no big deal. I personally don't think an explanation note is necessary.

I concur, you can submit the docs at the time of the interview, if you are unable to submit them now.

After getting her police clearance certificate from police department. She applied for police clearance certificate from regional passport office. Where she had to submit her original passport and there is a fee involved. Regional passport office would mail the original passport and certificate within 10 days. Also, she submitted in person.

In both cases you have mention that you seeking this certificate for us immigration visa.

I had a question, can one request both PCC and Passport Office Clearance at the same time. Or one has to wait till PCC is done and then ask for Pssport CC.

I read one post in this thread that they did not do this is parallel so was not sure. Also, I got this response back from persnnel about Police Certificate when I asked can my wife apply for the PCC as we await the case to be forwarded to New Delhi. They say it is "advisable" to wait for Packet 3 but I take that NOT as a mandate and it is okay as long as it is not too outdated. ANY COMMENTS from any VJourney folks?

A quick question - police clearance certificate from regional passport office : DOES one apply for this at the actual Passport Office or at the police station in the city where the passport office is located?

There are 2 PCC required. The PCC from regional passport office has to be applied at the passport office. The other PCC has to be applied at local police commissioner office.

hi,

There are 2 PCC .... one from the passport office where your passport was issued and one from the local police station where you have lived from the age of 16... so if you have lived in multiple cities... you have to get PCC from police station from those areas also.... please note to get the PCC from police stations in English with clearly mentioning its for a USA visa and please do the same when applying for the PCC from the passport office.

Both the certificates are valid for 6 months..... according to the US consulates.......

I am not sure if you can apply for the PCC at the Passport and local office at the same time, because some offices keep the passport when you apply. In our case, they kept the passport for one day (36 hours) at the passport office (Visakhapatnam) then returned it with the PCC and there was a stamp in the passport too. Then we went to the local police station and they kept the passport for a few hours and then gave the PCC. I think doing the PCC at the passport office first helps because there is a stamp in the passport and the local office will see there is nothing adverse about the applicant.

Some passport and police offices will do the PCC at any time, other offices may require the interview letter. The reason waiting for packet 3 or 4 is so the PCC will not become outdated, the interview may be scheduled late so best to have the PCC as recent as possible.
