Travel with expired green card.

My two-year green card had been expired last October. I applied for the new green card with I-751 form in July 2007. I then received I-797 (NOA) to go get the biometrics done. It's done and I got biometrics processing stamp on I-797. Still haven't got new green card yet. What happens if I need to travel abroad? Will I have problem re-entering the U.S.? I got a passport that not expired yet. I read somewhere saying that I-797 should extend the green card for another year but I didn't see that anywhere on mine. I also got Infopass appoinment next week since I also read that they can just stamp on the passport and I should be good to go as far as traveling. Please advise since I don't want to have problem re-entering the U.S. Thanks a lot.

did you only get the one notice, the biometrics appointment notice??

you should have got another notice that extends your green card for another year...

if yo haven't got it I would get the stamp in your passport... it is called the I-551 stamp, you need to make an info pass appointment to go get one...

Yes, I only got the biometrics appoinment notice. The biometrics has been done on Oct 10 2007. Haven't received nothing else since. Do you know how long it takes for the extend notice? I already made the info pass appoinment next week. The I-551 stamp can be done within the same day right?

Thanks much.
