Hi everyone,

I'm in the UK now staying with my fiance but unfortunately my scheduled flight home to the US is on Tuesday-Jan 8th. He has two weeks off from work and wants to come over to the U.S. perhaps on Wednesday for us to be together a bit longer. He was going to fly to New Zealand to stay with his family during his work vacay but due to time constrictions he'd only have four days (waste of a flight, $, and he'll return more tired than when he left) where he'd get at least a week with me in the U.S.

So anyway, we're just talking about what he needs to guarantee entry on the visa waiver program, as he always comes in. I told him he'd need proof of ties to the U.K. such as rent papers and proof of employment. And he has copies of our whole 129-F packet including the NOA1. What should he tell them at customs/POE? Basically I told him he needs to prove that we are willing, want to, and are in the process of doing this process legally and he has no intentions of marrying me upon entry. Any suggestions, comments, experiences, tips-greatly appreciated! He hasn't been to the US since we've filed so we're just entering upon this situation now.

Thank you in advance,

Meg

Most people suggest just going in and saying you are visiting friends/partner/boyfriend/girlfriend/family/fiance(e). You don't need to even mention the visa unless they ask. It is recommended that when you go through immigration that you don't offer any information unless they ask for it but it is advisable to have it on hand in case they do!

I am (attempting *gulp*) entry into the US next month and intend to say I am visiting my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. I will bring my NOA1/2 and as much as I can of ties to my home country (which isn't much :P). I will answer questions honestly and fingers crossed it should be fine :) They only turn you away if they feel you are going to a) do something illegal or B) overstay your welcome :)

My only warning is if you get turned away then they put you on the next available flight back to the country you came from at your own cost. I had thought about this and decided that when I next attempt to stay with my SO then I am going in through Canada as if I get turned away I can stay in Canada and she can come up to see me instead of hours on a plane and extra expense of a new flight.

I'm going through US immigration in Dublin. Although again, I can't see any reason for them to turn us away - we aren't doing anything illegal :) We just have to make sure we cover all the options :)

I flew to see my SO after filing K1 - I would agree that it is best to just answer the questions and offer no extra information. I didnt have a prob entering - but also acknowledge what others are saying about it is possible to be turned away. I ensured i had all the proof of intent to return just in case but wasnt asked for it. Good luck with your visa journey

I thought about that but if turned away then I would not get to see my sweetheart which is why Canada was the option for us :)

See for me - whether I get turned away in Dublin or the US - we are having a non-legal wedding (no license etc so won't breach visa conditions) and all my family are flying out so... I figured that if I get through then at least I can relax over the Altlantic :)

It's nice to hear of people who had no problems as well - I think (correct me if I am wrong) but people who have difficulty communicating in English have more issues because IOs have been known to put words into their mouths :(

It is nice to hear of people getting through without questions. My task is a lot harder as I stayed in the US for over 5 months last year using the VWP 3 times so not illegal. I also got denied a tourist visa for lack of ties back in November so obviously that will show up on my record. The thing that makes me laugh is that my SO is still married so even if we wanted to we could not tie the knot while I am there.

Ouchies! I stayed over there for 7 weeks last summer but haven't been over there since April 2007. I think I had more questions in April because I gave a residential address where I was staying :P Not sure whether to do the same this time or put a hotel - we don't stay at the residential address anyway - it is just a central point of contact...

He will put a residential address also when he lands. It won't be mine though, likely my grandparents address as we'll probley both stay there while he's around. But he's flying through another airport before he gets to our local one-so that'll be his US POE. He's got his UK lease agreement and his work papers as proof of ties to the UK. I've advised him to have all this and the 129-f packet copies in his bag but to, as you all say, tell the basics and at least he'll have that stuff as proof if they ask for it.

I to live with my parents and got voluntary redundancy on July 1st so have not needed to work since. I have got a job offer starting in March and a lease agreement from my parents that I have used as proof of ties if I need them. Please keep your fingers crossed for me over the next couple of weeks :)

ohh - how didyou phrase the lease agreement from your parents? You can PM me if you want - might be worth getting my mum to write something...
